I took both reviews. The kaplan was paid for by my school.I however felt that it didnt teach rationales.I went to a school where we had to self teach because the instructors were not up to par.Our med surg one just read the power point back to us and couldn't answer questions or give any rationales to save her life.
So i decided that the kaplan wouldnt be enough and i paid for the Hurst. It was the best 300 bucks i ever spent.I feel that one can pass with just the Hurst review. Its a content review with detailed rationales .I only did the 7 exams on kaplan and was making 75% and above after i had completed the Hurst review.
I took my boards on Monday in Texas, 75 questions in about an hour.I was sure i had failed because the exam felt easy to me.I did the pearsonvue trick immediately after and got the pop up and today morning i found that i had passed. :yeah:I now realize the exam only felt easy because of the preparation that i got from Hurst.I could hear Marlene's voice through out my exam saying..."no one ever died from pain....' and 'pick the killer answer".
Anyway, i just wanted to help anyone who is trying to decide on which review to take and to wish you all the best.
I forgot to add, this was for the NCLEX RN.thanks

To the OP: We must have attended the same school! I also attended a program where I had to do a lot of self-teaching after contending with mediocre instructors. The school also paid for every student to attend a Kaplan live review.
I have taken both Hurst and Kaplan.
The Kaplan live and online reviews were provided to our school with no cost out of pocket to the students, as the school was paying for everyone to attend. Kaplan, in my opinion, is a good review of strategies for answering difficult questions. It is not a good content review by any stretch of the imagination, but it is an excellent review of test-taking skills and ways to approach higher level NCLEX style questions.
My friend and I paid to attend the Hurst live review last month. The Hurst Review is a wonderful review of basic content, which is what my friend and I felt we really needed. The Hurst Review spent relatively little time going over strategies for answering NCLEX style questions, but they spent days going over the content that every person should know in order to pass NCLEX.
If you feel that you need a content review, go with Hurst. If you feel that you need a review of stretegic test-taking skills, go with Kaplan. By the way, I took NCLEX-RN in Texas yesterday, received 75 questions, and am confidently awaiting my results.

I wouldnt be surprised if we went to the same school. Its such a small world.A girl in my class actually told me about Hurst and she and her friend were going for the live review. It may have been you.Tell me if this is you..you sat in the front row in the middle seat and on our last clinical day we decide to go have lunch at some restaurant that turned out not good and so we went to Golden Coral ....If you are who i think you are...it would be soo cool that we went to the same school.I have got a lot of advice from you on this boards and to think we sat in the same class for a year..lol
I wish you all the best waiting for your results.

My friend and I went to a Hurst live review in Arkansas from March 31st until April 3rd. I think I was in the day class with you, while my friend attended the night class.

Thank you so much for post your review of both programs! I also went to a school where we had to teach ourselves because our instructors were not up to par! I was debating on Kaplan or Hurst and now, I know which one I'm going to purchase! :-)
