I used the hurst online and printed out the handouts on there.i never used any other material or book because,not even the notes i took in school.thn i did the kaplan exams.

I went that route: Surgical tech - Lpn - RN and i never felt like i had an advantage over anybody in nursing school or when looking for a job.The OR environment is a very abusive one,the Surgeons being the ones doing the abuse and you as the Scrub Tech bearing the blunt of it since you are right there and an easy target. That being said,when i do pre - op teaching for my patients i am able to describe the whole procedure ,minus the gory details, better and answer questions like how long procedure will take,scar appearance blah blah blah.. I wish i would have saved myself that 1 year and gone staright for my Nursing classes.

I printed out the handouts on the Hurst website and did one topic a day which takes about 1 -1.5 hours .I was done in 2 weeks .Then i did the kaplan prep questions taking 1 exam a day.I completed in 1 week then took my exams.

I wouldnt be surprised if we went to the same school.Its such a small world.A girl in my class actually told me about Hurst and she and her friend were going for the live review.It may have been you.Tell me if this is you..you sat in the front row in the middle seat and on our last clinical day we decide to go have lunch at some restaurant that turned out not good and so we went to Golden Coral ....If you are who i think you are...it would be soo cool that we went to the same school.I have got a lot of advice from you on this boards and to think we sat in the same class for a year..lol I wish you all the best waiting for your results.

I took both reviews.The kaplan was paid for by my school.I however felt that it didnt teach rationales.I went to a school where we had to self teach because the instructors were not up to par.Our med surg one just read the power point back to us and couldn't answer questions or give any rationales to save her life. So i decided that the kaplan wouldnt be enough and i paid for the Hurst.It was the best 300 bucks i ever spent.I feel that one can pass with just the Hurst review.Its a content review with detailed rationales .I only did the 7 exams on kaplan and was making 75% and above after i had completed the Hurst review. I took my boards on Monday in Texas, 75 questions in about an hour.I was sure i had failed because the exam felt easy to me.I did the pearsonvue trick immediately after and got the pop up and today morning i found that i had passed. :yeah:I now realize the exam only felt easy because of the preparation that i got from Hurst.I could hear Marlene's voice through out my exam saying..."no one ever died from pain....' and 'pick the killer answer". Anyway, i just wanted to help anyone who is trying to decide on which review to take and to wish you all the best.

2 12 hr shift and get paid for 32 hrs...now is that a deal or what?I have always worked 12 hr shifts so am used to them.I wouldnt mind driving to ft worth or the mid cities since it would be 2 days a week only and on the weekend theres no traffic so it would be cool. I really appreciate this, commuter

Why am i having such a hard time finding a weekend double job in a nursing home.is it the economy?:scrying:i remember when nursing home would beg for doubles people. Anybody have any ideas where to look.i live in the dallas area and ive applied to 100 places and nothing....

no i am not per diem,i have been therew 6 months and no one complains about my work.they have problems keeping techs and i dont know why because the job is simpler that nursin homes...i think its time to move on to anothjer job.id have liked to stay 1 yr but thats not going to happen this time

i dont mind working as a a tech if they are short but out of the 3 days i worked last week i was a tech for 2.it just seems like they dont even bother to call the PRN techs they just schedule me without even asking.am pretty easygoing and believe in teamwork so i do what needs to be done.it jsut seems like they are taking advantage. Arent they supposed to let me decide if i want to work as a tech or get cancelled that day?is this happening to other lvns too and what to do about it? ive decided not to log in until i see the if theyve scheduled me as a tech so i can leave .is it abandonment if i havent clocked in but am in the building.am in texas....

hey commuter,thanks for posting this.i too live in texas ,denton to be precise.i am taking my pre reqs now but getting discouraged by pple in my science classes who are retaking them to make As just so they can be on a 2 yr waiting list for RN school...maybe get accepted maybe not. i went to a private sch for my LVN and i yet to regret that so i am going to look into Platt.The two yrs Id have been waiting to get into Rn schoo i could easily have made that 20k back...

that sounds just like this fancy new nursing home i got my "dream job" at .they asked me to pass meds as the med aid on my first day of "orientation" "because thats the best way to learn pts names". talked to the DON about how hairbrained that was and just didnt show up the next day. i was lucky to get a job at a hospital.its oesnt pay as much am not putting pts life and my licence at risk.

you know i never thought to CLEP lifespan and sociology...thanks for the idea because itll save me money too. im saving A$P for last.ill definately CLEP eng comp too.

hi am a newbie here but i lurked on this forum for encouragement all through my LVN school and now moved to this forum for my EC. I have read alot of posts about how you can take some classes and leave others for CPNE wait period.My general education courses are eng comp lifespan dvt sociology A$P microbiology am taking lifespan dvt now.could someone please tell me which ones i can leave undone to keep me busy for the CPNE wait period which i gather could be months...thanks
