HURST REVIEW

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I really want to purchase the online review for $300 but I don't know where to get the $300 from!! I'm so stressed cuz I'm planning to take nclex-pn for the 3rd time. I've been working on nclex 3000 cd questions but I would like to learn the contents as well before I sit for the exam.

YOUR THOUGHTS ON HURST REVIEW? DID U ATTEND THE LIVE REVIEW OR ONLINE?

I saw that you bought the hrst review what do u think so far? I was just wondering B/C I was planning on getting also but wasn't sure. I have been out of school since 2008 and need to review alot of content since I have forgotten so much. plz let me know how the hurst is going and is worth the $$.

Thanks in advance

I took Hurst and failed. Not close to NCLEX by a long shot. You'll feel good after the review that's for sure. Then you'll sit for boards waiting to get a "If you see this think this" type of question. A type of question you will never get.

The problem with NCLEX is it's not affiliated nor does it approve or supervise any course or book out there. There should be some source of NCLEX content and practice questions that is of NCLEX. In other words "This is what you should know". Simple right? Not so.

What you have is Hurst's take on it, Saunders take on it and many others.

Why else would people that through the course of nursing school and all it entails hit a brick wall when it comes to boards? People that by the time they graduate are study machines.

All you can do is divide your study time between content and practice questions. From where it doesn't matter much because none of them nail NCLEX though Kaplan's questions are closer than others.

The odds of passing lean more towards the wealth of information you've gathered through your years in nursing school than the five days spent in a review.

Not to say you should not prepare. Review of content and practice questions is a must. Just keep it into perspective.

Think of any course or study aid as supplemental. That's all it can be. If it were anything other than that we would all read the same book or join such and such's miracle "you can't fail if you take this" course and pass.

Sorry if I offend or frighten. I remember something from nursing school called "presenting reality". This is it. I'm also not trying to bash Hurst or any other course. Just to share my own opinion through my experience.

Good luck and someone give me an amen!

im taking the online hurst review and listening to feuer because I graduated from school in june 2009, so i dont remember much. but my sister took the boards last month, and she reviewed from hurst, feuer, kaplan, and learning extention (wow, thats a lot huh, she was terrified to fail), she told me that the questions are similar to kaplan "in the way they are asked, format wise..etc." and learning ext helped her learn how to eliminate the wrong answers. so, idk i guess it depends on what you need help with, either "not knowing enough content" or just "help eliminating wrong answers" ....

im also on hurst review online. i think it's good but do you recommend any good book for practice question for nclex???

In a perfect world where money and time was not an object a good strategy would be the Saunders review and questions book for content and the Kaplan online practice questions for practice in a format closer to NCLEX.

In the real world you're probably going to have enough time to stick to one book or review course. Too many sources will just be too much.

My advice would be if a student were to graduate and wish to take boards within a month or so go with the Kaplan questions with less emphasis on content. Not no content at all just less. The logic being you just got out of school and you will not gain that much content or new material within a month. Practice questions in the style of NCLEX may be of greater advantage.

Three months or more study time and that is if you can spend most of your time studying then half an half content and question would be my plan.

Good luck.

I just started my hurst plan today, does anyone have any ideas on where I should start. Or do you have a mapped out plan for either 5 days, 1 week, or 2 weeks?

Best of luck to all on passing the nclex! Give yourselves sufficient amount of time, do not cram and if you are weak in any content area, make sure to brush up on them followed by the sample questions on the topic...hope it helps! I am struggling with the exam myself, hope this time we will all do a fine job! Best of luck!
