HURST REVIEW....REVIEW

Published

For those of you who did the HURST REVIEW prior to your NCLEX,

DO you feel it helped you to pass? Was most info from the review covered on the NCLEX? Thanks!

No review can cover everything on the NCLEX because it is not known what will be asked in an individual test. Hurst Review has a good reputation. It is a good start for your preparation, but you can't expect to get everything from the review itself. You need to do a lot of work on your own. Good luck.

When I was studying for NCLEX I mostly used the Hurst review; even attended a live review. Really enjoyed their enthusiasm; needless to say i failed NCLEX. It is very broad, they do not go in depth with patho which is something that I need. Also, their questions and practice test I found to be much easier than NCLEX questions. Many people in my class also agreed with this, however some people did pass using Hurst Review and some did not. This time around I will probably barely open the book to study from. I personally find Exam Cram much better. Everyone is different though!! Good luck to you!!

I just took the Hurst Review in January and I found the book and the course very interesting. I was told if you need content review, Hurst is the course. One of my classmates failed twice with Kaplan and just passed this January using Hurst. She agreed with me that Hurst was the right review course. If you know your content very well, Kaplan is the course. I also failed thru Kaplan, but I know my content was the weak area. It was good information from Hurst that will make me pass this time around.

Thanks everyone! Wish me luck...and whats "Exam Cram?"

Exam Cram is a study book by Pearson. There is a content book and a practice question book.

I took the Hurst Review, studied for three weeks, and passed on the first try with 75 questions. I thought Hurst was terrific. It emphasizes both content and strategy. It's painless. I actually found it quite enjoyable.

The key to making it work for you is to study exactly as Marlene Hurst recommends. It's not about rote memorization, which leaves you to drown in the low-level questions come exam time. It's about understanding concepts so that you can focus on getting to high-level questions.

Personally, I thought the Hurst practice tests were much more difficult than the NCLEX itself, and the classmates who took the review with me concurred. When I sat down to take the actual exam, it was only a few minutes before I realized that I felt over prepared. I left the exam knowing without a doubt that I had passed.

100% yes. HURST Review is the only thing you need to take. Of course you can not just take the class and then take the NCLEX, you still need to study and HURST gives you all the materials. I took HURST Review 3 times. Twice while I was in nursing school, and once after graduation. I bucked down for three weeks and studied HURST, HURST, HURST, about six hours a day 7 days a week. Took my NCLEX in 1.5 hrs with 75 questions. Passed. And did not even cry or feel terrible afterwards (until I started getting scared because I figured I should have felt terrible and thought maybe the questions were easy because they were low level questions and did not pass...nope, they just were not terrible because I got a good review and studied hard).

HURST gives you the material to study right. They say that if you study the way they teach you and do not pass that it is a lack of content/knowledge problem. They can not teach you everything, you did go to nursing school; its not their fault if you did not retain any of it (implied you, not speaking to anyone specifically)

I have taken the Hurst review and must say that it is the best review ever. Marlene goes ever the criteria and breaks it down so you can understand. I did not pass nclex the first time, so then i decided to take hurst review. and YES it helped me alot. it helped me prepared for nclex and i just found out today that I passed!!!!!!!! I am so excited and it all goes to hurst review.

Hi,

I am accepted to the Nursing Program for the fall semester 2012 and this is my second time.

First time in 2010 I failed the practical lab 3 times in Fundamentals and I had to drop the course. I do not take tests well, even through I study hard, and I got nervous on check out of the skills. I did my CNA class after that and work at assisted living facility now. As a requirement to get CNA certified by the state I had to do 100 hr on the job training at the Nursing Home.

When I had my hands on the skills with the residents, I realized that everything start to klick in and make sence. I was on the waiting list again, and during this time still debating if I want to go back to Nursing school or not because I am 53 years old. I wanted to be a nurse for a long time, and could not get earlier as a single Mom and working a lot. Now, my daughter is a nurse and out,and I thought its my time to make it happen! All Nurses.com is my favorites and I enjoy reading all the stories and experiences. You all inspire me and I do believe I can do this.

I want to prepare my self as much I can, from now till August 20 when I start Fundamentals, so I am refreshing on math, looking for free tests websites. I have learned so much by reading all of your tips on how to study, note taking, what books to read and how to kill your TV. And I am learning my mistaykes still from 2 years ago and I feel more confident.

Also I know my weakness, NCLEX style questions critical thinking. Is mostly 2 right answers in the question, and I have to select the best one. That is hard because I always select the wrong one. Maybe because English is a secong language for me, but I do speak fluently another three languages.

Many of you talk about different review programs like Kaplan or Hurst Review for passing the NCLEX test, and its great!

Some say that they" took Hurst Review 3 times, twice when been in Nursing School and once after graduation", Others say that, "its a great review course to pass NCLEX, I wish I had this while I was in Nursing School". My question is, can you really review this by course, for example Fundamentals to help with critical thinking on the tests during Nursing school? I am trying to find the ways to improve my tests taking skills. Any advise on this? Please anything will be helpfull......

Thank you,

Veola

I think best tool you need is Saunders 5th edition :) for the the starters i would not worry about Kaplan or Hurst at this stage of nursing, these tools are really to help you pass Nclex, get the fundamentals you need in school then these reviews will just top up what you already will learn in school. wishing you all the the best in your nursing career
