Hi!

Does anybody go to Hunter for Nursing?

I got accepted into the school as a different major but I am really thinking about trying to get into the program for next year.

Thanks

Tracy

Hi!

I am a transfer student entering Hunter in the Fall. I took the math compass test and I thought that it was hard. I did not do very well so I have to take a pre 101 workshop this summer. I have taken college algebra before and passed but I still have to take the workshop to move on at Hunter.

The test was taken on the computer and in my opinion was in advanced algebra and trig. If you are good at those you will do fine.

Good luck

Tracy

any hunter students [transfer if not its okay] is taking a math comprass exam???

i am a rn transfer going onto the rn pathway program at hunter. what is the exam like? any input would be appreciated!!!

I am graduating from Hunter-Bellevue in two weeks. I took all my prequisites at Hunter main campus, but also applied to NYU, which I was also accepted. However, here's the catch with NYU (besides the tuition) - when I looked over the NYU program, it was going to take me an EXTRA YEAR to graduate - different school, different curriculum.

I am finishing up my first year in Hunter and planning to go into the field of nursing.. i know the hunter program is really good, but really competitive as well (that's why i am killing myself for the grades!! and finals are almost here!! >

thanks

Congratualtion!! i am finishing up my first year in hunter now, and i am curious what's your gpa and the NLN score..

my gpa is not that bad, but i am worried for the NLN since i am seriously disadvanage when it comes to the verbal part.

GPA > 3.4 u will be fine. pre-nln > 120 you will be fine. Dont worry about the verbal part, i did worse than u...only got 29/60 ^_^

Have you heard from Hunter yet? I wish you luckkk =) did you apply to other schools?

yeah, i am in nursing now, this is my second semester^_^ 2 more semesters to go. ;)

that's great!!! >=O did you apply to other school while you were applying to Hunter? Oh yea, did you prepare for the NLN exam? I bought this study guide, but my friend told me that the actual exam is much harder than that.. so i dont know >

Oh yea, in the application (to apply for nursing), what they ask you? do they ask your to write an essay? i am thinking to volunteer in hospital this summer, just to get experience.. (i worked/volunteered in summers before, but right now, i want to actually get more experiences about the field.)

thanks a lot..

I didn't apply for other school when i was applying Hunter. The NLN exam? hmmm...actually i just practiced the whole book once, and it is really helpful. hmm, I had a lot of chemistry and biology classes so the science part is not hard for me and neither the math. but the verbal part...i did TERRIBLE!!!!! The actual exam is similar to the study guide and some questions ARE from the study guide. but the math part is harder in the actual exam. The most challenge part is the timing. U know u only have 80 mins for 80 questions in the verbal part i guess, or 100 mins for 80 questions i dont remember, but i know i didn't finish the verbal part, still got 20 questions left by the time i need to turn in the exam :( 60 mins for 60 questions in math, 60 mins for 60 questions in science. AND in each section there are 20 questions are ONLY for survey purpose :(:::so they will thow them out hopefully. but you will not know which are for survey and which are not. The application for nursing is only ask you to fill out the classes you took and the grade u earned, nothing related to essay. dont worry about that. Working in hospital as volunteer is good exp because it is good for your proforile in the future. When you get into nursing, u also have opportunity to work in hospital as intern, so you earn more exp. so just work hard and keep ur gpa high and do well in the nln, u should have no problem to get into Hunter. ^_^

THanks for the info.. it's really helpful!! =) I have been doing the practice exams.. my study guide is RN Pre-Entrance Exam, by Mary E. McDonald.. did you do the same practice exam?

Actually how's the life in the nursing program tho? i know it's TOUGH, but do you need to study all the time? (oh well, this is my first year of college, and stupid school has been taking me all the time from doing anything else! grr)...

Yea...my gpa is not bad.. (but i got so pissed off with myself today cuz i got my first exam grade with a B for the first time in this semester! -.-!!) I need to learn more new voc. for the exam..

good luck to you! =) and thanks a lot..

I am attending the RN Pathway program at Hunter. I'm almost done. Only 2 more nursing classes and I'm out! Good Luck to all!!!!!

yaya, that is the book i had too ^_^ and remember to study some physics, cuz there were 8 to 10 questions are in the physics part :( i dont have any physics but i had it in high school, so i guessed most of the questions....HMMMM, the life in nursing is.......busy busy busy busy busy.....u have to read 500 pages or more maybe 1000 pages for one exam which only worth 10 to 20% of your grade, final will be cumulative!!!!! papers, group work, community projects, a lot a lot!!!!! u definitely have to finish allllllll general classes b4 nursing because u will not have time for other classes beside nursing classes. I am too stupid i didn't finish 2 general classes and get into nursing and now i have to figure out how i am going to have time to take those classes.....I dont study all the time, too lazy....^_^ but if you study, u have no problem to get B, if you want to get A, u definitely need to sacrifice most of your relaxed time. Nursing is very different, u have to think all the time instead of memorizing the study materials, that is why i dont do very well in it...:( lack the critical thinking technique....yaya, and u need to learn more vocabularies, I would say if you learn 5 new voc per day from now u will do fine in the exam ^_^ hehehe:welcome: by the way, when are u going to apply?

i am going to apply next year.. so i still have like 10 months to study for the exam.. i am just so worried with that exam, cuz i know i cant score high in the voc/verbal part.. -.-!! oh yea, and now people are telling me that the math part of the actual exam is harder.. so i am pretty screwed =(

I think for the science part, i should be okay with Chem and physics (i took ap in HS).. and next semester, i am going to take Bio 120 and Chem 120.. so hopefully that will help. =) and yea, i am going to take a general bio course in BMCC in this summer, just to re-learn the basic stuff again, cuz i really dont rem anything from HS.. (it's been like 4 yrs already!)

and the pages # scare me. =( But i know i will work hard for my future =D

have fun and get ready to enjoy your summer.. i am going to take like 3-4 summer courses. damn it.. (one of them is undecided)
