Hi!

Does anybody go to Hunter for Nursing?

I got accepted into the school as a different major but I am really thinking about trying to get into the program for next year.

Thanks

Hey I'm in Hunter doing Pre-reqs for Hunter's Nursing

(Hunter's pre-reqs are Psy100&150, A&PI and II(Bio120/122), Chem 100/102, Chem 120/122, Stat 113, Bio230)

The thing is first u have to be a Hunter student, then comes Febuary of every year u can get the admission form from the Admission Office and apply.

Hunter accepts 80 people each Fall, ONLY 80 and ONLY FALL!!!

It's highly competetive.

And while u submit your application u can register to take Pre-RN Entrance EXAM(given in the beginning of March)

The school will consider BOTH your GPA and your Exam score

Note: the GPA will be from every school u've ever attended and CR will be turn to C and NC will be turn to F, and recalculated...

Your GPA has to be higher than 2.8 and I think average GPA of those who apply last year was 3.4!

Anyhow, u should go see Pre-Health advisor at HW 417 Mon from 1-3

The advisor is a great help and she can answer every questions u have better than I :)

But I'm applying this year and I am waiting for the answer, so wish me luck!

Hi!

Thanks for the info. Do you have to make an appointment to see the Pre-Health advisor?

How do like Hunter? I am excited to start in September.

No U dont have to make an appointment to see the Pre-Health advisor

it's walk-in so u might want to go well before 3 pm on Mon

I really like Hunter...the location makes it convenient for me to commute from Queens, the price is right too :chuckle , there are some great professors and some not-so-good ones...so it's up to your luck who u get(but majority of the intructors are great!)

I hope u will enjoy your experience at Hunter :)

I use to go to Hunter college for nursing. I had a 3.6 gpa and I could not get into the nursing program because there waiting list is 2 years long. Of course they will not tell you this because they want your money pouring into there school. That was two years ago and the waiting list is still the same. I know so many people who have waited and still are not in the program. I transferred to a SUNY college upstate. SUNY colleges dont have waiting lists for the nursing program. Now I am going to be a senior getting my Bachelors degree this year. I totally wasted my time at Hunter. Get the stats before you apply. This goes for all CUNY schools because every single one of their waiting list are 2 years minimum.

Hi!

Thanks for your input. That is disappointing that the wait list is 2 yrs! While I still have pre-requisites to finish up I do not know if I want to risk taking the classes and never being able to get into the program.

I dont mean to discourage you or dissapoint you in any way. I advise that you still talk to someone from Hunter. Its just a hassle when you finish pre reqs for 2 years and apply and take a test to get into a nursing program that only has 80 seats and its not guaranteed. If you want to graduate on time I advise that you try schools that don't have a waiting list with limited seating or a school that you dont have do 2 years and then apply to there nursing program. Try Pace or Adelphi if you want to stay close. But if you want to go away like I did (Because Pace and Adelphi are really expensive) try SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Brockport or Plattsburgh. Really good nursing programs without a waiting list and the seating isnt limited. At first I did not want to go away but I am glad I did because I am almost done. And going away is a really good experience. I am only telling you this because I am from the city and I know how those CUNY schools work and I know all about different nursing programs in the city. And one more thing. Registering for classes and pre reqs at Hunter is almost impossible. They assign you different dates to register. When registration rolls around you will be lucky to get into the classes that you need. Especially with the pre nursing classes like Anatomy and Physiology. They let so many students in who have intentions of applying to the nursing classes (about 300) and all 300 of these students are competing to get into nursing pre reqs and the nursing program that only has 80 spots. I wish someone would have told me this before I went to a school like that. Sorry this is so long. Good luck

HI, I am a student in Hunter college too, I applied for the nursing program this fall, I am very curious to know, you have 3.6 GPA and cannot get into the program?? and I would also like to know how they view the Pre-NLN exam score, they will look the overall score or individual test score. I have 126 on the composite, but I did poorly on the english part, only got 38%, so...if they break it down, I cannot get into hunter nursing...so anyone has any idea from the past? thank you very much for your help

Hi. They view who has the highest scores and GPA. But their is only a limited amount of seats in their nursing program. When I was their they only had 60 seats available. You are in competition with approximately 300 people all fighting for the 60 seats in the nursing program. Alot of students at Hunter college are academically competitive. Most students have high GPA's. 100 students for example can have a 4.0 GPA. Of these 100 60 are chosen who have the highest Pre-NLN exam score. Its just so many students that you will be lucky to get into the program. I Hope this answers your question. Who knows you might get in. I am just giving the heads up.

Thanks a lot, I am still waiting for my letter.....hopeless sometimes:( cuz it is so competitive, but thank u very much for ur help:)

Hey dandan,

I'm also at Hunter, also waiting for the Nursing

After reading this forum, I feel kinda hopeless, u know

If 3.6 GPA did not get a person in, then what will?

I have only 3.4 GPA but my NLN is pretty high(...151...)

So I'm really hoping THAT will get me in

Yeah I know I'm a bit optimistic... :crying2:

Hey, don't worry, u got so high NLN, i am sure that u will get in...but me...sigh...that low...126, u know i am the only one chanceless after i heard the person with 3.6 cannot get in....:( so...i think i should be the one who worried about that...goood luck:)
