  1. Sounds like jealousy to me. I have the same problem right now. I am a new grad working on a Telemetry unit and most of the nurses are older. They all pick at me because I am 22 years old with a small frame. I am also very shy and quiet. But I willl stand up for myself. You can't let people bring you down. Be more assertive and aggressive but don't stoop down to their level. They are just jealous because they wish they were young nurses. Don't get depressed. Girl you don't need medication. You just need to be more confident and let them know that you will not take anymore of their rude comments and BS.
  2. Thank you everybody for your kind words and support. I PASSED!!!!!! I am officially an RN........YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Hello everyone. I just took NCLEX-RN yesterday with 110 questions. I had to take an educated guess on a few questions and I got alot of priority questions. I know that there isn't any way of telling if you passed or failed but someone told me that if the computer shuts off early that its a good sign. Is this true? Probably not but I am Feeling as if I failed =(.
  4. Hello everyone. I am fairly new and haven't posted in a while. I will graduate in 3 months with my BSN. I really would love to teach Med-Surg. But I have a few questions. Can I instruct clinicals in an ADN program without an MSN degree? Can I teach Med-Surg in an ADN program without an MSN degree? Eventually maybe within a year I am considering getting an MSN in Education. But it has to be an online program......does anyone know of a good online MSN education degree program? And what is the difference of teaching with a BSN VS MSN? Sorry for all the questions. Im just confused. Thanks.
  5. Hi. I might be too late but I just saw this post. Potassium is used in rapid situations to push glucose IN the cells. This produces a decrease in SERUM potassium. Thats why kayxelate is used to push glucose into the cells. Hope I helped.
  6. NO!!! Never assume or wing anything with nursing. If you do that you will be making a huge mistake. What are you gonna do, waste almost $700 on a chem class just for hunter to say "what the hell is this". You can get the class evaluated at nassau community. You first have to get a printed description of the chem class at hunter that you need, then submit it to the chem department at nassau and they will tell you if its equivalent. Or to save time sometimes the chem dept or advisor at your school can call the chem dept at the other school and see if its equivalent. If not just go to nassau yourself. And dont forget whenever you are taking another class you need to get the appropriate form from the oasis office. Have it signed by the chem dept and get the class approved once you get it evaluated. Then you have to get the appropriate form from nassau also and follow their procedures. Make sure everything is legit and make copies. Do this fast because the summer session is almost here. Good luck!! :)
  7. Hi. Dont fret my dear. All you have to do is go to http://www.tipps.cuny.edu. Once you find out what school your gonna go to I must say you need to get your appropriate papers signed fast. Summer classes fill up fast..especially science classes. Thanks and good luck
  8. I am so frustrated and pissed off with my nursing program. The racism has gotten out of control. Also the treatment that they give all students that they have notions about and have targeted makes me sick. I am doing very well in my program and a group of students and I want to go to the dean and even the president of the school..so they can investigate our program. But there is no reason why I should fear that the professors are going to tamper with my grade if they found out. I dont know what to do. This program is very militant and its getting out of hand. The way my nursing departmentf handles things is very unethical. Any advice? How can I avoid being one of the targets? I am a minority...but one of the lucky ones because "they like me". Thanks.
  9. Definitely Saunders comprehensive review for NCLEX-RN. Perfect book. Need I say more. I have not found any other book as good as this one. Definitely dont get Mosbys NCLEX review. I have that and it sucks and dont waste your money on incredibly made easy. It does not top Saunders. I want to kiss the publisher.
  10. Hi. I just wanna make something clear. I dont think I was denied because 3.6 was a bad GPA because it isn't. I think I was denied because their was alot of students in my class who had 4.0's and 3.9's. Their were some really smart kids who busted out all A's in pre reqs. So many people had perfect grades...so they took those people first. I think now at Hunter the spots in the nursing program has increased. I was their from 2001-2003. Dont worry you guys will most likely get in..but at least have a back up plan so if you have to transfer it wont put you a year behind. Thanks and good luck.
  11. Hi. They view who has the highest scores and GPA. But their is only a limited amount of seats in their nursing program. When I was their they only had 60 seats available. You are in competition with approximately 300 people all fighting for the 60 seats in the nursing program. Alot of students at Hunter college are academically competitive. Most students have high GPA's. 100 students for example can have a 4.0 GPA. Of these 100 60 are chosen who have the highest Pre-NLN exam score. Its just so many students that you will be lucky to get into the program. I Hope this answers your question. Who knows you might get in. I am just giving the heads up.

HI. I am in the same boat as you. I am from NYC but I graduate in may 2006 and I am planning to move to Richmond after graduation. I want to attend VCU because they have a really good CRNA program. It was rated as the #1 CRNA school in the U.S..but that was in 2001. I dont know what it rates now. I have alot of family in Richmond and I heard that if you work at Chippenham hospital they will pay for your masters degree at VCU because they are an affiliate. But I dont know how true that is. But Richmond is a beautiful area. The only thing I am concerned about is the pay. I know that you can get a nice apartment for about $700-$850, which is not bad because most are gated community town houses with a pool and your own parking space. But I come from a big city with good pay. But I think the quality of life is better in Richmond. The cost of living is so much cheaper. But if I move to Richmond I will be taking on a $15,000 pay cut. But it works out great I finally realized. Good Luck. :wink2:
  13. I dont mean to discourage you or dissapoint you in any way. I advise that you still talk to someone from Hunter. Its just a hassle when you finish pre reqs for 2 years and apply and take a test to get into a nursing program that only has 80 seats and its not guaranteed. If you want to graduate on time I advise that you try schools that don't have a waiting list with limited seating or a school that you dont have do 2 years and then apply to there nursing program. Try Pace or Adelphi if you want to stay close. But if you want to go away like I did (Because Pace and Adelphi are really expensive) try SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Brockport or Plattsburgh. Really good nursing programs without a waiting list and the seating isnt limited. At first I did not want to go away but I am glad I did because I am almost done. And going away is a really good experience. I am only telling you this because I am from the city and I know how those CUNY schools work and I know all about different nursing programs in the city. And one more thing. Registering for classes and pre reqs at Hunter is almost impossible. They assign you different dates to register. When registration rolls around you will be lucky to get into the classes that you need. Especially with the pre nursing classes like Anatomy and Physiology. They let so many students in who have intentions of applying to the nursing classes (about 300) and all 300 of these students are competing to get into nursing pre reqs and the nursing program that only has 80 spots. I wish someone would have told me this before I went to a school like that. Sorry this is so long. Good luck
  14. Hello. I will be graduating with my Bachelors in Nursing in May 2006 and I am from NYC. Nurses straight out of school in NYC are starting out right now at $35-45 an hour. Now this is a really good salary right out of school. But my dream is to move to Richmond VA (Because I love Richmond), work for a year in ICU at whatever hospital pays the best and to attend VCU to get my masters to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. My problem is the tremendous pay cut that I will have to take if I move to Richmond. I hear that nurses are not payed that well. $17 an hour is ridiculous no matter what the cost of living is. To me that salary is bad for a single 21 year old without any kids. I would barely get by. But this problem will go away if I get my masters because the salary in Richmond for CRNA's are on average is $125,000 a year. I dont know what to do. Should I just stick it out and get my masters in Richmond or should I get my masters in NY and then move to Richmond. I know that apartments and car insurance is really cheap in VA..but Im still hesitant about moving. Any suggestions or opinions?? Thanks. :) Im so confused right now.
  15. I use to go to Hunter college for nursing. I had a 3.6 gpa and I could not get into the nursing program because there waiting list is 2 years long. Of course they will not tell you this because they want your money pouring into there school. That was two years ago and the waiting list is still the same. I know so many people who have waited and still are not in the program. I transferred to a SUNY college upstate. SUNY colleges dont have waiting lists for the nursing program. Now I am going to be a senior getting my Bachelors degree this year. I totally wasted my time at Hunter. Get the stats before you apply. This goes for all CUNY schools because every single one of their waiting list are 2 years minimum.
