Hey prospective nursing students :)
I wanted to start a discussion on Hunters 2018 application frenzy.
I'm currently completing my application & studying for the NLN that I have scheduled in February.
Would love if we could open up a discussion on current test scores and experiences:
Hope to hear from you all.
Good luck!
Here's my info so far to get this thread started:
GPA last college 3.7 (i think)
GPA at hunter 4.0
Taking NLN in Feb so I will post my scores then!

I applied to hunters accelerated for this fall 2018 with my bachelors gpa of 3.83, pre req gpa around 3.8 and nln score of 153. I still have to take genetics and microbiology.
mcrib09, Thanks for sharing your scores!
That's an awesome NLN score! Would you mind sharing how you prepared/what study materials you used for the NLN Pax?
I used the red book that the nln recommended. I tried to study for about an hour or at least 30mins every day for one month leading up to my nln exam. I would say to concentrate more on the science portion of the exam and brush up on math calculations. Don't spend too much time going over English because you won't get the same words on the Test. Everyone's exam questions will be different. my test didn't have any anatomy questions; majority of the questions was about chemistry and physics.
Thanks so much for the advice. Studying for this exam is so nerve-racking. Hunter's nursing programs are so competitive but I think you have a really strong GPA and NLN score!
I'll post my NLN score and acceptance or rejection (applying to generic) as the results come in. Good luck with everything!
I hope I get in. It's so competitive...Even though my score and gpa are high, I don't know how competitive the pool would be this year for their accelerated program. I feel like my score and gpa are just average compared to hunter's standards. I haven't heard of anyone's scores and gpas od those applying to Hunters accelerated for this year so I can't compare and gauge whether or not I'm in good standing.
You'll be fine with the test. Don't stress too much. You should call to see if your school offers calculators for the math section. I highly recommend going over chemistry and physics. Biology and anatomy questions are pretty easy therefore you can make educated guesses. I remember for my science component, there was basic math problem solving questions as well.

I took my PAX about a week or two ago and got a 147 (99th percentile) with a 4.0 from hunter and a 3.7 from a college I took high school classes at (not sure if they factor this into the overall GPA! if anyone knows please lmk :) )
the book is your best friend! I dedicated a lot of time to it and went through and did all of the practice sections. I can assure you, content-wise, the test is very similar.
about the personal statement - I also struggled with it to some extent. Mine ended up being around 650 words, same amount as a standard college essay is.
In case anyone else is wondering about the calculator for the math section (assuming you take it at Hunter) - yes, there is a calculator! It's at the bottom tabs of the screen and it's there for you the entirety of the math section. unfortunately, you don't get it in the science section for any of the formula related questions, but in my experience I didn't end up needing it at all for science anyway. :)
ktdee, thanks for the insight on the exam. That's a great NLN score and GPA! My personal essay was around 650 words as well. Hope they don't put too much emphasis on it.
Did you apply to the generic or accelerated program?
thanks! I think the essay is really just in case there are multiple applicants with the same composite scores/GPA as you, they use it as a deciding factor. At least that's what i've heard.
I applied to the generic program. I feel very jittery now that there's nothing to do but wait until April/May!

I am freaking out!
NLN PAX score: 146 (99th percentile)
Hunter GPA: 3.94
Previous College GPA: 3.31
Cumulative GPA: 3.65
I rue the day I went to college for a year when I was 18 even though I really didn't want to; it is screwing me over now! I am just hoping and praying that a 3.65 GPA and 146 puts me in the top 100 :/
As I understand it, the personal statement isn't likely to make or break you. They mainly want to know about the people they are admitting, and if, by some teeny tiny odds, there is a tie for 100th place then they will use the personal statement as the tie-breaker.
