Hey prospective nursing students :)
I wanted to start a discussion on Hunters 2018 application frenzy.
I'm currently completing my application & studying for the NLN that I have scheduled in February.
Would love if we could open up a discussion on current test scores and experiences:
Hope to hear from you all.
Good luck!
Hi everyone! An update: some nursing acceptances came out may 8th. I was accepted to the generic program with a 3.98 GPA and 136 NLN score. Excited for the orientation! ... This years applicants seem to have had extremely competitive GPA's (3.85+). It seems that a GPA of 3.8 was the line, an NLN score on the higher side would then be needed to get in. Good luck prospective students!
I've never had a problem getting in contact with the prenursing advisor. There were times when she was out of the office but most of the time I would call her any day between Monday - Friday from 11am-1pm. This is the number I call to speak to someone from the department - *(212) 396-7168‬.
Hello Src23- I just happened to discover this thread on Hunter College. Looking at you stats I was very much in the same boat as you. I had a 3.2 GPA from my undergrad years ( way back in 1995 ) and I received straight A's in all my science prereq's. When Nursingcas combined the two my cumulative came out to 3.53 GPA. On the NLN I also got a 148. So....I thought I was doing fairly well, having a good chance of getting into Hunter Nursing...but...alas I was not accepted. It stung A LOT! And now I'm trying to figure out what my next move will be. I'm considering Lehman college and have spoken with a few of the advisors there and they feel confident that as long as I do well on the HESI I'll get in. At Lehman they only look at your science GPA and HESI score. Why can't Hunter do the same!!!!! Anyway- I just thought I'd contact you to see what your plans are. Hey maybe you got in!! In which case...congratulations!!!
Hello, I'm not sure if anyone is still reading/checking this thread, but I would love to hear a little more about the program from someone who is now in it. Specifically, I'm wondering about the schedule. I am applying to the ABSN at Hunter for this Fall 2019. I have twin 4-year-olds and a husband who works long hours, so I'm just trying to get a sense of the weekly schedule. I understand that it's subject to change.
Hi @robilotto, I am in the generic program which I know is not exactly what you're looking for but hopefully I can help anyway.
Undergraduate Nursing Programs — Hunter College
This is the website you would go to in order to figure out the exact schedule you should be following to get into the program and what classes you HAVE to take while in the program. I highly recommend trying to go to a Nursing information session, it can be really helpful to talk to other students and faculty and to simply hear the instructions rather than read it. It also gives you an opportunity to ask general questions about admission.
The program is strict and not very flexible with time options.
Again, I am a generic pathway first degree student so my schedule is a bit different. We commit approximately 4-5 days to classes and clinicals, for some students that includes weekends. My schedule is mon-thurs.
Clinicals for all students start at 7am, which begins earlier in the semester for accelerated students. Classes generally start at 8am, 9am, and 12pm though you might have to take a class or 2 in the evening as well (i'm not sure if that's the same for accelerated, i have only 1 class with them that starts at 9am on tuesdays). The work load is also intense and you may occasionally want to attend tutoring sessions etc.
I assure you that it is DOABLE and you're certainly not the only married-with-children student in the accelerated program. I wish you the best of luck and hope that I helped a little bit!

If you download your nursingcas application, it should tell you what your cumulative GPA is. The program does require you to send in all transcripts, from all college credit classes including one from Hunter. Nursingcas is separate from the CUNY system so they have no access to your school information. It's possible that they did not review your application if it wasn't completed by the deadline. Your nursingcas application should say "Verified" and note the arrival of your transcripts, if not then there was probably an issue with your application. I would call the nursing departments phone number as oppose to the prenursing advisor (who is very difficult to get in contact with). I hope you're able to talk to someone and figure things out, good luck!
