Human Anatomy / A&P I Club for Fall 2007

Published

I'm starting human anatomy next week, and would love to get a sticky started to keep each other sane. I'm a bit nervous about starting this class, as I really need an A, but work full-time and will also be taking abnormal psych. It's going to be a lot of work! :uhoh3:

Let's help each other out through this forum! :welcome:

So, when are you starting, where are you taking it, and how are you feeling?

Is it too late for me to join in? I have A&P I now, I started on the 23 of August. I have 4 other classes now, but this is my second go around for this class. I attempted it with another professor last winter semester, but his teaching method (if you can call it that) drove me insane and I had to drop out after the third week because I couldn't learn a thing. He lectured on the basic chemistry in lecture, the bones in lab and wanted us to learn histology at home. It would have been way too much memorization and with so many subjects to learn at once, I wouldn't have done myself any favors. I now have the professor that has the reputation of the hardest of A&P intructors. I love the way she teaches. She is a doctor and reviews and gives input on some of the A&P books being published. The thing is that she teaches from a practical standpoint. Most everything is taught by association, not memorization. And she tests in a way that you have to know your stuff. I hope I continue to do well, as right now I have 3 A's. Well I guess I've said enough. I hope you all do well in class!!

Glad this is here...will help remind me I really should be studying!

I'm in A&P I, and so far (knock wood) doing well (especially since half the class is apparently failing, but I think that's them, not me!).

Our first exam was cells and basic chemistry; second, more on cells and all of tissues. First lab quiz, cells, second, tissues, integument and membranes. Next quiz, Tuesday, on the skull and bone structure. Upcoming lecture exam on osseous tissue, the whole skeletal system and joints.

Good luck to everyone!

Well, I found this thread a little late, but better late than never. I'm taking anatomy/physiology I this semester and hoping to come out with the "A" that I need to be admitted to the ADN program next year.

I'm not going to lie, this class is kickin' my butt. I have never studied more in my life! Some days I feel as if all I do is either sit in class, study, or go to work. The only way I'm getting through it is by looking ahead to the end, and the fact that I'll be able to move on with my life.

Lab exams are the most difficult for me (considering both lab/lecture), I suppose. My instructor is fairly good with lecture, but not so great when it comes to lab. We had a test recently which had on it a lot of material that wasn't mentioned during the lab sessions.

But, I am confident that I can do this, and I'm sure that all of you can as well.

Good luck to all, and thanks for the great info in this thread.

Out of 27 students in the beginning, we are down to 17. We had practical and lecture test 2 weeks ago on the same day, which was not originally scheduled. He told us the week before test that instead of one we are going to have two tests. On practical only 5 people passed, and I am not sure for the lecture exam, but, I doubt it was much better. I got 76 on practical and 85 on lecture. That whole week before test was so bad for me, as I was not prepared to have two tests and I was sick, had sinus infection. I was so glad I passed those two. Two more practicals and two more tests and this class is over.

I bombed my first lecture and lab tests!!!!

I'm soo stressed out because of family stuffs and no matter how much I've studied, my mind just went blank! I just finished our lecture test 2 and the lab test will be on Monday. Wish me good luck!!!

Good luck!! Don't be discouraged -- I got a 70 on my first lecture test and we had another one yesterday that I think I did worse on :o I really did study more this time, but apparently I still haven't quite figure out what approach to studying works for me. I have a lab practical a week from today, and I'm determined to get an A!

Study hard, and don't let those grades get you down...I let that happen to me for a few days and I definitely wasted those days on feeling sorry for myself when I could have been studying instead!

I read most of the threads and everyone seems to be talking about the tissues and skeleton. Has anyone started with the muscles yet? I have my test( lab) on muscles in exactly 2 weeks from today and i was wondering if anyone knows any website or tricks that will help me in memorizing the muscles?

we just started the muscles this past week, and I'm nervous too, cos the bones just about killed me :( We took our test on the bones last week and I'm a bit worried about how I did.

If you have online tutorials, use them! Depending on the book you use, if your teacher uses CourseCompass, there are tutorials that have animations that go with them, that our instructor says are pretty important to understanding the concepts.

She also said to not let the long names of muscles scare you too much. If you break them up into shorter blocks it helps. Plus the shorter parts usually tell you something about the muscle, either it's location, function, or which part is the origin, which is the insertion and so on.

As I'm just getting started, that's about all I got at this point. But I'll keep an eye on this thread for any other suggestions/ideas.

This class has been kicking my butt, too! It feels like any and all free time I have goes to it.

Here are a couple of sites good for both bone and muscle practice:

http://msjensen.cehd.umn.edu/WEBANATOMY/self/default.htm

http://swc2.hccs.edu/Biol/labs/ap1/

http://www.getbodysmart.com/ap/muscularsystem/menu/menu.html (that site is still in progress, but what's there is very helpful).

If anyone is still doing bones, here's a very nice site for quizzing:

I need some help!!! I know somebody's gotta have the Lab Manual for MARIEB 7th Edition! I have a lab due tonight and it's asking me to label muscles from diagrams on pages 232 and 233.... the problem is that my book is missing.. :trout: If anyone would be so kind as to scan those pages for me?? I'd be forever indebted to them! Or any other ideas guys? I'd go to the bookstore but it's closed by now, and I even looked to buy another on craigslist but no luck.:crying2:

I feel your pain we just finished with bones as well and had our mid term which i did not do well on. We are starting muscles this week and i'm dreading it. i really need to get at least a "b" in this class to maintain my grade point average to be considered for the nursing program. You could cut the tension in my school with a knife if your in the nursing program. There are 64 pre-nursing students and 30 spots available so over half of the people will be very disappointed. I hope I'm not one of them
