HRSA 2021-2022

Updated:   Published

I haven't seen anyone start a thread about applying for this year's HRSA scholarships. I am waiting to see if I am accepted into a school in IL (fingers crossed!) and then I am going to start my application process for HRSA. The program I am applying to is a 16 months ABSN that starts in august! what about you all?

Have you been accepted some where yet? Still in the application process? Already started the Scholarship application?

Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP)

HPSP awards scholarships to students receiving education/training in a health care services discipline. Awards will be offered on a competitive basis and are exempt from federal taxation. In exchange for the award, scholarship program participants agree to a service obligation in a VA health care facility. Learn more:

Thank you! No, I'm as average as you can get. My GPA was 3.86, no leadership roles, no extra activities other than my jobs, but I was accepted into the VANAP program - which I think helped me a lot. But I was very direct in my essays about what I want to do and my goals and why - no fluff. Since it's a VA scholarship, you might want to emphasize why you want to care for our nation's veterans and their families and how you plan to progress in your career at the VA.

Just try and apply! Finger cross for you! The process was very fast for me and others that I knew who applied at the same time as me (beginning of July). Good luck everyone! Hope you get either offers soon!

Congratulations! I was thinking of applying but I’m worried about having to relocate if I indeed get the scholarship. My spouse is active Army and we have kids, so we wouldn’t be able to relocate as a family if the VA decided to place me somewhere else. With HRSA, there are a ton of qualifying facilities near me.

Thank you! Ahh, I see! That would be tough. I have yet to get more information about service obligations and etc, but from what I read from previous participants on this and other forums, we'd have a 1-year residency that the VA will place us. I think 6-12 locations were mentioned and we give our preferences. And after we graduate, we will find the jobs ourselves, but in the worse case we can't, then the VA will probably place us somewhere (but not entirely sure how true that is). Good luck!

They sending email for everything but these application statuses ?

I’m kind of worried that I haven’t gotten ANY emails from them ?

I haven’t gotten any emails from them either. I know they must have my email address so I’m also a bit worried.

Can you screenshot the info about the 6-12 locations they might place us in for VA scholarship please and thanks

Don’t be, most of us subscribed to the email list. If you haven’t, that’s probably why.

I believe you can unsubscribe from them! If I’m remembering correctly, there may have been a box to check if you didn’t want those emails! I haven’t gotten any either.

Hopefully, we hear back soon. Last year, I got my denial letter in September 17. It’d be nice to hear back sooner!
