I haven't seen anyone start a thread about applying for this year's HRSA scholarships. I am waiting to see if I am accepted into a school in IL (fingers crossed!) and then I am going to start my application process for HRSA. The program I am applying to is a 16 months ABSN that starts in august! what about you all?
Have you been accepted some where yet? Still in the application process? Already started the Scholarship application?
Hey, if you guys haven't applied to the HPSP for VA, I think it's a good idea to try it if you are interested in working with the VA after graduation. It has basically the same requirements and tuition/stipend/books cover as the HRSA. Plus I think everything is also tax-free, unlike the HRSA. The turnaround time from submission to alternate/waitlisted to offer pending to accepting the offer was roughly about a week and a few days for me. I applied on July 8th and got my official offer today.
I noticed that there were a lot of comments on the HRSA but not a lot on the HPSP, so you might get a higher chance! It's worth it to try at least!

Hi!
what are the details on being considered “active duty”?

I just went on their site. It doesn’t specific if it’s for new nursing students or continuing nursing students.

I'm a new BSN student, just finished my prerequisites. There's a long document they have detailing everything on the VA website.

There's no active duty (at least from what I read), it's a VA HPSP. After you graduate, you just got to work for the VA for 2-3 years. The army HPSP I think does require you to be on active duty after graduation, but I don't think for the VA HPSP. There's a long document on their website that detail this

Thank you for mentioning this -- I wasn't aware of the application at all, but I'm going to give it a shot and apply while waiting to hear back on the HRSA! ?

Hey, just wondering in your application if you held a lot of leadership positions? What do you think the main things they are looking for? ? Congratulations by the way!!

Thank you! No, I'm as average as you can get. My GPA was 3.86, no leadership roles, no extra activities other than my jobs, but I was accepted into the VANAP program - which I think helped me a lot. But I was very direct in my essays about what I want to do and my goals and why - no fluff. Since it's a VA scholarship, you might want to emphasize why you want to care for our nation's veterans and their families and how you plan to progress in your career at the VA.
Just try and apply! Finger cross for you! The process was very fast for me and others that I knew who applied at the same time as me (beginning of July). Good luck everyone! Hope you get either offers soon!

I think so . I think the last day to know is September 30
I know many people had to search pretty hard to find a job but honestly the way I look at it is when I get the scholarship I trust and believe it will come with a job . If it’s for me then it will be . Job and all.
