HRSA nursing scholarship

Published

Hey, did anyone apply for the HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program, and if so, has anyone gotten word on acceptance yet? I know that they weren't going to start making notifications until after July 1st, but I'm already going totally berzerk just waiting! I noticed that they checked my credit on July 2nd, but I have no idea if that means I made their first group pick or if they just automatically check the credit on everyone who made it into the first funding preference. Anyone else out there going crazy while waiting??

There is NO way the govenrment is going to give out scholarship money to people who have a bad credit history.

What do you base this statement on? Did you read it on the HRSA website?

The website does state that a credit check will be completed as part of the acceptence process. And I just know that the government will never grant a loan or scholarship to anyone who is currently defaulted on a student loan. This is fact.

As far as the good credit scores, I don't know exactly whetheror not they have a criteria for that, but I would doubt the government would choose to give scholarhip money to someone who had a very low credit score with a past riddled with late or non payments. If they run a check and have adequate candidates with good credit, I can only assume they would pick those people first, but I don't know for sure.

So basically, I don't know if they credit history is a factor per-say, but I definately DO know that you will not get this scholarship if you are currently defaulted on student loans. That is a no-brainer.

Yes, I think we all know that you can't get this scholarship if you've defaulted on a student loan - they tell you that in their info. But I don't think we can jump to the assumption that a low credit rating = no scholarship, esp when they require a 0 EFC. Actually, I would think if a good credit rating were required that they would let that be known, like they do about having defaulted student loans.

Yeah, I said I didn't know what effect your credit rating would have on anything...so who knows. It might have no effect at all. But I would be willing to assume that if someone with a clean record is up against someone with a car repo, 15K in credit card debt, and a long history of late payments, that the person with good credit would get picked.

I doubt HRSA is looking for pristine credit reports, but I bet they have SOME standards and weed out the really bad apples.

I think that they will check you credit for what they stated they would check it for.... to make sure you don't owe and outstanding federal debt(student loans etc). I spoke with a rep from hrsa and new stimulus money will allow additional scholarships to be given this year, I thought this was great news because it will improve everyone chances. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Yayyyyyy!!!! I wondered that myself. Thanks for letting us know, Toya!

Has anyone heard anything? I'm going crazy!

Still waiting - I've tried to push it to the back of my mind so that I don't go crazy. :)

me neither-- I don't understand why we have not heard anything. By this time last year applicants was sent the in state out of state email and was emailed some paper work that had a 48hour turn around. I am hoping to hear something really soon. I have until sept 10 to inform my school whether I will be starting this fall or need to defer my acceptance until next year.

I guess we'll keep each other posted if we hear anything...good luck everyone!!!!!

It stated on the initial paperwork that we would know by the end of September is you got it. So I am thinking about 3 more weeks before we know anything.
