The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.
I'm living in Jersey City. I like it so far. Just different not hopping in my car to go somewhere and I know this winter I am going to freeze to death haha. Yea, Austin is great. Did you get your books for classes yet? I think I got what i needed, but everyone at the bookstore seemed as confused as I was.
I haven't purchased the books, everything is so confusing, whether to get Ebooks or the regular textbooks or bundles. A lot of people on that blog on Facebook have mentioned to wait until classes start because the professors will tell you exactly what you need. I plan on buying the required ones at the bookstore tomorrow. I haven't got shoes yet either! Have you?

@heatherfryer I got the bundle and the 3 required books not included in that- but for the patho- I got the jump book version so really I just got 2 actual books. Dunno if I got the right things but I was kinda just over it and didn't want to mess with it anymore. I got some shoes a few months ago. Other than that- I'm totally lost haha. On my schedule it still shows my lab room as TBA so I hope that updates soon. (??). I am also nervous because I don't know how intense the program will be- just hard to imagine what to expect until it starts. I'm afraid I'll be a basket case and all my hair will fall out by the end of the semester. Sigh.
I don't know how many of you were following previous posts regarding the availability of additional federal loans if the HRSA scholarship was accepted.
Originally I was told that I would be unable to take out any loans after the first semester. I talked to several people and kept coming up with that dead end.
Of course I am much more stubborn than that! I spoke to even more people and this is what I've found.
Yes we can take out loans!
The challenge is that the loans can not be deposited into our school accounts before HRSA is invoiced and makes payment to the school. The way around this (since HRSA funds will not be delivered before student loans are dispersed) is to file your FAFSA each year to become eligible for loans and to find out the maximum you are eligible for. (For example: $40,000 a year total loan eligibility). Then at the beginning of each semester, DO NOT ACCEPT THE LOANS. This way they will not be dispersed into your account.
Then if you find yourself stuck and need to take additional loans after the HRSA dispersement is made, then you can go to financial aid to obtain a loan. You are only able to take out the difference between your total eligibility amount and your HRSA benefit. (For example: $40.000 - $30.000 for tuition paid by HRSA).
The whole thing is a bit crazy but it is manageable once we get enough information!
...and my log in page has not changed either.

Wait what? My tuition has already been paid for by a private loan - I'm under the impression that if we take out a loan, the school just has to return the money (and I return the money deposited into my account), and the school will invoice the HRSA.
