2012-2013 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Application

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

Wait what? My tuition has already been paid for by a private loan - I'm under the impression that if we take out a loan, the school just has to return the money (and I return the money deposited into my account), and the school will invoice the HRSA.

Right...this is what I thought, too. Or, we're supposed to submit an invoice to HRSA, and then they'll send us a check to pay back the loan (s), which must equate to whatever tuition (and fees) is. Most of us have to have our tuition paid by the beginning of the semester (first 2-3 weeks in) in order to stay in our classes, so it wouldn't be fair to expect us to wait and not pay for tuition somehow...I hope that's not the case :(

I was specifically speaking about the ability to take out loans to supplement the $1298 monthly stipend. I was only sharing this to update a previous conversation I was having in this thread.

HRSA will reimburse loans for the first semester awarded since you had to start without having a final confirmation from them. So the loan you have taken out will be ok. After that initial semester, they will not reimburse any loans you take out. If you do take out loans and pay for classes before HRSA is invoiced, HRSA will only send the balance due to the school. (For example: if your tuition is $7000 and you take out a loan for $6000 and it is applied toward your student account before invoicing, HRSA will only send $1000 to the school.)

I know my school will invoice for my tuition and will let me begin classes without payment in the spring because they will get confirmation by the end of the fall semester. They are ok not having tuition at the first day of classes after that as they have worked with HRSA in the past and understand that there is some lag time.

I hope this was a little more clear.

Ahhh gotcha.

So they say that they are going to roll out the awards any day. It will be an email, nothing in the mail, not sure where that came from.

Here's hoping for today

Hope is all we have :)

Well, the site is down for maintenance again tonight. I know it was down a few weeks ago and nothing happened, but one can hope :) You can imagine I will be checking it at 10pm (that's when it is supposed to go back online)! So I hope this is a good sign and wish everyone the best of luck!!

lol!! i knoww!!! I'm in eastern time and when I got home from school today, it was already 10:05pm. I forgot that it was barely Monday, and thought it was already Tuesday. I rushed to the website to check if their maintenance changed anything. When I went on the site, I then realized it was barely Monday and not Tuesday. lol ahhh!!!

Ugh!! I just want it all wrapped up. On thursday I got an email from my caseworker (i emailed him earlier in the week). He said that they have still not released any awards, but are hoping to do it "any day now". I really thought that would be Friday of last week....oh well. Is there anyone else out there from MA? We all have a caseworker, and they are assigned to us according to state. He says we will get an email welcoming us and with a welcome packet. Anyone out there that didnt get an initial email but has had a change in status? From what I was told thru financial aid, they were still looking to give out more awards, just wondering if that were actually the case....fingers crossed we get emails this week!!!

OMG I saw that and totally forgot that it was Monday! You can see where my brain is :)

@rachinator25 I'm also in Mass. and haven't heard anything since I signed the contract in August. How did you know we have a caseworker? Did I miss something? At this point I'm just going to wait....longer....to get that email, but I'm getting really nervous. I'm afraid this award and money will not come through, why is it taking so long!??!?!

as if Nursing school isn't enough stress in and of itself............let's just dangle our scholarships out of reach for as long as possible!

(sorry guys, today was first day of proctered exam week and it SUCKS) I can't wait to get past this quarter (hopefully if i pass these test) and move on to clinicals!
