HRSA Nurse Corp Loan Repayment Program 2023

Specialties NP

Updated:   Published

Hello fellow RN's/APRN's,

Just finished my application for the HRSA Nurse Corp Loan Repayment Program 2023 program! Nervous but excited to see what comes of it, I see that the competition is extreme but it looks like over the past few years they've been given more funding to award!

Question as well: Does disadvantaged background apply to RN/APRN's applying or only to nurse faculty? I included the form anyway, just in case it helped my case as I am the first in my family to attend college.

Here are my qualifiers:

FNP-C

Behavioral Health - Pediatrics

DTI <100% - Just at 0.95%  (This is the total qualifying education loan balance divided by base annual salary)

HPSA Score: 13

Best of luck everyone!

Has anyone had their credit checked yet? I haven't but I saw on the 2022 thread that some applicants already had their credit checked by March 14th 2022.

PMHNP and FNP

Behavioral health

DTI about 140%

HPSA score: 18

I was wondering about the credit check; haven't seen anything come across any of my credit monitoring yet.  Someone mentioned it's only via Experian and not Transunion or Equifax on the older forums, so also something to keep in mind.

Hello everyone,

I am currently a participant in the loan repayment program. Ran across this thread and thought I'd give some details of how the chain of events went down from last year when I was accepted. Applied in December of 2021 and credit check was in the middle of March. Received an email in August that I was a finalist and then received final confirmation of my acceptance into the program in September. Unfortunately it is a lot of nervous waiting. Remember reading that if you hadn't heard anything by the end of September then you hadn't been accepted but everyone eventually receives an acceptance or rejection notification. I think the deadline for submission was later this year so all of these dates are relative. My stats at the time of application:

DTI 95%
HPSA Score: 18

saveitICU,

I'm a CRNA too. Do you remember when you applied if you submitted your prove of board certification as a CRNA? I didn't because it never asked for it during the application process but I'm thinking that was a dumb move on my part. Thanks for your input.

Shamfrod,

I don't remember having to submit anything from NBCRNA. As long as you do the work verification I think you'll be fine, unless the requirements have changed. Hope it works out.

I have submitted an application for the traditional loan repayment. I am a WHNP applying for the MCTA. First time applying.

Hello ladies,

I'm an RN working in Homecare/school nurse low income area.

I have my masters but not my boards yet.

347k in loans - please don't judge

I just applied Feb 1st.

how do  I calculate these percentage?

I haven't heard anything from HRSA.
No credit score checked

I'm really hoping for relief. I'm drowning here as single mom. I hope all of you get help too! I check daily. Super desperate! No luck so far.

NinaRn63,

It's a pretty complicated process but here's what I could find out about DTI and HPSA scores:

Your DTI is debt to income ratio and can be calculated by taking your loan amount and dividing it by your base annual salary. >100% gives a better chance at relief. Note: the website said qualifying loan amount, I'm not sure which loans qualify.

The HPSA score is a score given to a geographical area/medical facility with a shortage of medical services. The higher the number, the greater the need. In terms of the loan application, the higher the score, the better the chance at relief. You can use the link below to find the HPSA score for the area where you work

https://data.HRSA.gov/tools/shortage-area/by-address

The higher your DTI combined with the higher your HPSA score would give the best chance at relief.

The HRSA takes your DTI score and your HPSA score and puts you into one of 4 tiers 1963947753_ScreenShot2023-04-15at9_52_13AM.thumb.png.a1b39a0c4c37f61915dc0758f1f67468.png

The HRSA website did say that in the past, they were only able to grant relief to RNs and APRNs in tier 1 ( DTI ≥ 100 and HPSA score ≥ 14), although it looks like there are people here who were able to get relief with DTI <100%. I think as long as your HPSA score is 14 or higher you have a good shot!

Best of luck to you!
