HRSA Nurse Corp Loan Repayment Program 2023

Updated:   Published

Hello fellow RN's/APRN's,

Just finished my application for the HRSA Nurse Corp Loan Repayment Program 2023 program! Nervous but excited to see what comes of it, I see that the competition is extreme but it looks like over the past few years they've been given more funding to award!

Question as well: Does disadvantaged background apply to RN/APRN's applying or only to nurse faculty? I included the form anyway, just in case it helped my case as I am the first in my family to attend college.

Here are my qualifiers:

FNP-C

Behavioral Health - Pediatrics

DTI <100% - Just at 0.95%  (This is the total qualifying education loan balance divided by base annual salary)

HPSA Score: 13

Best of luck everyone!

Same here!

What does it mean when they do? Are they checking to see if we are eligible?

Hello! What credit service are you using to find this?

I think so?  It's my understanding that if you meet all the requirements they check your credit to verify all your loan balances?

Had my credit checked today = )

So I wonder if you didn't get a check today if it is a no go. Hoping not. ?

I also had a credit check today! I'm really excited, but should I be?! How often do folks get a credit check without being offered repayment?

I did too today! Very excited. I now have so many questions.

I know that normally Nurse Corps Loan Repayment IS taxed and they normally take the taxes out of your payments. But I believe that there has been an exception from 2021 through 2025 by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (see below). Did anyone receive the NCLRP in 2021 and did they get an exemption from taxes on it?

"Special rule for student loan discharges for 2021 through 2025.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 modified the treatment of student loan forgiveness for discharges in 2021 through 2025. Generally, if you are responsible for making loan payments, and the loan is canceled or repaid by someone else, you must include the amount that was canceled or paid on your behalf in your gross income for tax purposes. However, in certain circumstances, you may be able to exclude this amount from gross income if the loan was one of the following.

A loan for postsecondary educational expenses.

A private education loan.

A loan from an educational organization described in section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii).

A loan from an organization exempt from tax under section 501(a) to refinance a student loan."

I don't think so. I think last year some had credit checks in March/April and others did not get theirs until July. It seems to consistently be through Experian when it does happen.

Best of luck everyone!

I just submitted a continuation contract for the NHSC Loan Repayment Program. 1 year to go and I'm debt free. Anyone know when we can expect to hear? I remember reading at some point that they award continuations first but I'm not sure if that is true.

I got a credit check too!

I'm a CNM/WHNP-BC in LA at a FQHC. Feeling very hopeful because I was offered the NHSC scholarship in grad school but had to decline because the terms made me anxious job-wise but they had increased funding for people working in women's health so fingers crossed!
