How To Prepare For Nursing Home Orientation Job

Specialties General Specialties

Updated:   Published

I just got hired working the 2nd shift (230-11pm). All I know is I will be doing a lot of med passes and admissions(5-8 per shift ) .... orientation is only 6-10 days. I would get anywhere between 14-16 patients per shift.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Doing 5-8 admissions per shift- properly- while taking care of your other patients, again, properly, is not doable. Is it possible that you misheard those numbers?

Does sound overly heavy. Don't know if there's other staff, how many pts for meds, etc.

CW - welcome to AN. I strongly recommend to newbies to use anonymous screen names. Everybody & anybody (seriously) reads the site. Stay safer. Ask the mods for help, if nec.

Yes I heard those numbers @Jedrnurse

@amolucia How do I change my name? I was thinking of doing it now.

I looked for yotube for help and its made it easier for me!

@Jedrnurse what I told is what I was told basically.

That actually closely matches my own SNF/LTC experience. MY advice don't do it. If you choses to go ahead with it buy some good running shoes.

5-8 admissions sounds excessive. I am hoping that your house supervisor will help you.

Wow, this position sounds intense! ? Can you please keep us posted?

@Hopeful RN  It's not bad, I don't get that much admission. I am still learning and still don't know what I am doing half the time. Asking questions and if I don't ask something I will ask. I do get admission, but I only get one, max 2 during my shift. I am doing better with my med pass, since they had given me more training. Thanks for asking and sorry for the late reply. Merry Christmas to you!
