How Rude!!!

Nurses Relations

Do you ever wonder how people can be so stupid and rude??

Today I was visiting my mom and decided to run over the local hairdresser and get a quick trim. This guy was there whose daughter graduated from high school last year. I do not know them very well just small town stuff. Town of 400 and everyone knows everyone. Anyway his daughter is going to school to be a nurse so I asked him how she was doing. (He knows I am an RN because I had him mother as a patient, and he asked me if was still working at that certain hospital). He says, "I just don't think being a nurse is very impressive. Having MD behind you name says a lot more. I can not believe I have to put her through college just to be a nurse."

I was totally dumbfounded!!! OMG!! Yeah having president in your name is impressive too. It is not like he is anything spectacular either. Never went to college, took over his dad's farm.....not that there is anything wrong with that, but that comment!!!!!!

I disagree, it is what you make in nursing. I know there are some issues in this profession are seriously not getting the attention they deserve but for the most part it is up to you. Yes, MD's command respect but when they come out of school that measly salary they get can barely pay their intuition. With our beautiful managed care doctors arent making big $$$$$ like they use to unless you go into cosmetic surgery. Regardless, I do not feel less a person because I chose to be a nurse. I like what I do and will excel in it. People who spend many years on the same floor not experiencing anything else but complaining don't ruin it for the up and coming. There are many opportunities in this field and it is up to you!!!! When this economy falls and there are major layoffs you won't see any nurses in the unemployment line you can believe that. Where I live there are quite a few forclosures. And everyone deserves respect it shouldn't be dished out based on job description those days that nurses kiss md's azzez is over so many times we save their behinds but that is another issue.

Well sir, I'd have to say if you are representitve of farmers, I am definitely not impresssed. Your comments lack both manners and intelligence. Many nurse are smart enough to be doctors and many doctors, why they're so stupid, you might think they were farmers like you!

What a slam! My oldest daughter wants to be a nurse and I am behind her 100%. Sorry, I think it was an insult and this guy is just a horse's a**. Maybe next time his mom is sick, the physician can answer her call light, give her meds, wipe her behind, etc. You know she's probably too wonderful for the unimpressive such as us nurses to take care of. Ignorant old FART!!! (incidetally, most of the farmers I've met are very grateful for the nursing care they recieve and often feel that physicians try to "talk over their head" and appreciate the more down to earth approach that nurses take).

What letters does that man have after his name? D.I.C.K?

Sorry!

I wandered into the wrong discussionaction-smiley-051.gif

I mighta said " EXCUSE ME !! " (but NOT while he was cutting

my hair ! :) :)

I read an article in this mornings newspaper,, Sunday a.m.,,

that said doctors are the highest paid profession in the U.S.

Think about it.

Hospitals pay nurses.

The U. S. Treasury pays doctors most of what they earn.

Doctors get paid from the same well the $189 Billion dollars is coming from for the Iraq war. It is a DEEP WELL,

filled weekly by OUR tax dollars. It will never run dry....

not as long as we keep working...

the American taxpayer.......

(and, in the 60's , women were told that the government was "working on a way they could all stay home and raise their children and be housewives...."

LOL

LOL

ha ha

Women actually "bought that! .....................'''

my dad said that to me when i told him that i wanted to be a nurse...he said.. "just a nusre"? i pissed me off, but here i am going into nursing, im in my first year and im loving it, i gaina whole new understanding that nursing is so much more than ppl think it is every single day.

 i can not belive the pig ignorance of some people. we work hard to get where we are, and most of have to juggle family work and study. if there is some thing we need after our names its 'bloody ledgends'

poeple say some very hurtful things, about nurses, but wait till they need us. then they eat their words.

Hang in there guys, we do a great job. And we Know it!!!!!

I have to agree that we are much more than serving girls (and boys) for the doctors and patients, but much of what we have to do is "lowly" service. However, I wonder what he would think of nurses if he lived in a country that doesn't have them (at least in the capacity in which we serve here) A South Korean doctor I was friends with told me that in his country the family is responsible for patient care -- and that included everything from buying and fixing food, to buying the medicine at the corner drugstore and giving it to the patient, and everything in between. He seemed to think nurses were something!

The problem with some people (a lot of them) is they just don't think. (I haven't determined if they are unable or unwilling to do so...)

> When this economy falls and there are major layoffs you won't > see any nurses in the unemployment line you can believe that.

Where were you the last time RNs were replaced by LPNs and LPNs had their jobs taken over by CNAs?

Don't you just love the new laws where your federal government finally considers nurses to be professional people -- and they can now legally be required to work overtime without being paid for it?

Wow.

My mom was a nurse, my dad a CNA, my sister is a medical technologist (not a lab tech), one of my grand-mothers was a nursing assistant, I have an uncle who is an MD, an aunt who is a psychologist, and another who almost has her MSW. Most of my life one or more of my family members has offered adult foster care in their whom either for the elderly or people with mental handicaps.

None of the helping proffessions command the respect that they deserve. Yeah MD after a name is a little higher on the scale then say CNA, but everyone thinks at least a little about the sacrifice that WE all have to make, when they take a moment. And for that matter what about police officers, probation and parole, correctional officers, judges, etc. We all risk a lot. If you are going to be good at any of these proffesions you have to care about people and put yourself out there for them. That's why they are called the helping careers.

Oh well, at least you have a title behind your name. What does that hairdresser have?
