  1. 10cc NS followed up by 5cc Heparin 100u/ml. Someone's PICC was good and blocked up the other day, IV RN got an order to put a tPA flush through it...cleared up that clot nicely.
  2. No psych for me thanks! No peds (not because of the kids but because of the parents), LTC, OR or post-partum either for that matter. I'll stick to hearts and brains thanks. Love cardio/tele and have a keen interest in neurosurg./neurology
  3. Yikes. I'm the only one so far to have a good supportive experience?? No complaints outta this girl for the floor I work on. Us new grads are welcomed with open arms and given awesome support from junior and senior staff alike. Im staying put for awhile. :)
  4. I had/have the same problem. Don't worry too much about it. I graduated the beginning of August. I did my 4month pre-grad in neurosurg. I was always coming up against new disease processes, new meds, new issues. Now I've been working on a 44 bed telemetry unit since Septemeber. Everyday it gets a little bit better. I still come up against organizational problems occaisionally, still come up against new meds, new issues... that kind of stuff, but the staff are great and there's lots of support for us new grads. No one expects you to be able to handle difficult issues or perform like an expert nurse right out of school ( at least that's what my collegues say ). Keep your chin up... it will get better!
  5. http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?query=falcine maybe that helps...?
  6. :roll That was funny. This is a good one to differentiate our professions... Doctor's treat the disease and Nurses treat the person.
  7. I'm not a big fan of diabetic feet. Necrotic flesh and black toes just don't turn my crank.
  8. I don't mind working weekends. Good staff on my floor make working weekends not too bad. Besides, I could never work a typical M-F, 9-5. I just don't work that way.
  9. Pretty much sums up my day at work! Minus the phone call to the kids, since I dont have any.
  10. Pretty much sums up my day at work!
  11. Wow, I guess I'm lucky from what I've read here and from what I hear from co-workers on my floor. I have no problems sleeping after nights, no masks, no dark blinds. I get home at 0800 and I'm asleep by 0815 until like 1300.
  12. Cost of parking comes off my paycheque (as if I dont have enough coming off it already) 25 cents for every hour you work in a pay period. So it's $3 for a 12 hour shift. Could be worse.
  13. Personally, I would never wear a cap or a dress of any colour. Not a functional uniform in my opinion. Also, I don't need a hat to define my profession.
  14. Oh well, at least you have a title behind your name. What does that hairdresser have?

We had to wear solid baby blue scrubs, which in comparison to my mother's all white with dark brown nylons and dark brown shoes is pretty good. The guys in my class hated wearing the baby blues and I didn't blame them.
