I'm 20 and a NJ National Guard Infantry men and I'm think about go to school for my RN. I was wondering is there a Demand for male nurses, and how do male nurses fit in this field. I enjoy helping people and connecting with them and I feel like this would be a good career for me.

Though not a male I work with several male nurses who are great nurses. I don't feel any differently about male nurses than I do about female nurses. BTW thank you for your service.
Hppy
In LTC which I work, some of the older ladies feel subconscious about having a male care for them in this somewhat intimate/private setting. But I think the men may feel more comfortable as do some of the females enjoy being around a younger man. Elderly women still enjoy eye candy believe it or not. Regardless, nursing has been a predominantly profession occupied by women. But myself as a female nurse welcome any man that wants to be a nurse it is a honorable profession for those of us who truly care about the people we serve.

Ah. So they are there for the "eye candy."
Gotcha.
Demand for male nurses? Of course!! There are lots of demands for male nurses -
"Give me pain meds."
"My dad needs to be suctioned ASAP!"
"Let me go home"
"Get me the doctor now!"
"I want CHOCOLATE pudding."
"Work an extra shift on Tuesday."
"Stay late on Thursday."
"Finish your documentation completely before you leave, but don't clock out late!"
"Help me lift this patient."
See? Plenty of "demand" for male nurses, just as any other nurse.

Far, I'm surprised you didn't catch this. (I think OP means self-conscious)
Like others have said its true gender doesn't really matter on a resume. On another note I really don't think this should be a "touchy" subject he was just asking a question. Lots people think nursing is a job for women (which is ignorant) so I can understand someone who isn't in the field, asking if his gender will be a factor in getting hired.
Well stated! Some people just need to breath before spewing 😉

"if you apply for nursing school and you are male, admission office will definitely take a special notice on you because you are one of the few males among majority female. Just like racial diversity, gender diversity is needed in workplaces. Why do you think there is so much advertisement and studies on the government trying to get women in engineering field. it's same thing for males in nursing field.
