How to pay NMC application fee for overseas nurses

Published

Good day! I just received the request for application pack from the NMC, In the booklet it is said that I need to pay an application fee of 140GBP, i read that I can pay through check, bank draft or credit card. JUST THAT. There was no specific instruction on how to actually send your payment. Any overseas nurses out there who has already paid the application fee? how did you do it? if you used bank draft/personal checks, what banks do the NMC honor? Would really appreciate the help.

The only specialities that the Borders agency state are a shortage occupation are Theatre nursing and NICU. These are the only specialities that they will issue work Visas for. Take a look at their site, it's clearly state there

I don't understand why UK hospitals would be recruiting from elsewhere either, it's certainly not happening in my area and having spoken to many of my friends around the UK it's not happening in their areas either.

What I would advise is that you investigate very carefully any agency or prospective employer who gives you a job offer, especially if they are asking for money from you to secure that offer. Speak to the organisations who regulate immigration and nursing for clarity rather than relying on second hand information from an internet site.

have a look at my blog, the link is in my signature, in there I've put some useful links for overseas nurses wanting to work in the UK, including links to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Borders agency, at the end of the day it is these agencies that will hold the key to you working in the UK

You could do, but if they are getting money off you then they may not always tell you the truth. Personally I'd confirm what I am being told by contacting the organisations that issue the Visas and approve your nursing registration rather than someone who is out to make a profit from you. Remember these agencies are there for the money, not for your happiness.

True. However, I have not payed any fee yet, and what they have assured me is that all the fees will be payed directly to the concerned office, to NMC for the application fee, and to the Embassy for the Visa filing fee.

there is no such speciality in the UK as medsurg. You either work in medicine or surgical specialities, could I ask if your already working in the UK, could you explain what your experience is personally other than 2 nd hand reports that way members will have an idea of what route you've taken to get here

I know nursing in the Uk and the phils. is totally different. Nope I'm still not working on in the UK, but hopefully soon I will. I have close to 3 years experience as a staff nurse in the ER, I took the IELTS, submitted my creds to the agency I said earlier passed the interview and followed thier instructions regarding NMC applications, basically that's it .

I think some of you guys mis understood what was on the email, the med-surg they are refering to are nurses who are working in the medical-surgical wards. I know it's not on the shortage list, but If I were you I'd give it a try you won't pay for any placement fee for the agency anyway...

the 2nd hand info I got were from very close friends and co-workers who are working as nurses *with work permits* in the UK already.

hi im already here in the Uk as student visa.. i am currently processing my papers to NMC actually im waiting for the decision letter for me to undergo ONP. here are the two options to get a working visa in the UK as nurses after you are accepted by NHS or other employer like BUPA and if you already approved by the NMC.

1. if your qualification as a nurse is in the shortage list like NICU or theatre nurse then its an easy way to apply. according to UKBA you need to get 70 points to be qualified under Tier 2 (General) visa (work visa). offered job in the shortage list gives you 50 points, maintenance funds (800 pounds for 90 days cosecutive in your account) however your sponsor may waive this maintenance funds telling home office that they will sponsor you with that maintenance funds and this maintenance funds will give you 10 points, the when you passed you IELTS it will give you 10 points. you have a total of 70 points the you meet the requirements of home office under TIER 2 (General) work visa.

2. if your job offer is not on the shortage list you can still apply for Tier 2 as long as the job was advertise in the UK for 4 weeks and the employer can't find British or EU for that job then they will hire nurses outside UK and EU and they will give you certificate of sponsorship. here is the computation... your qualification, being a nurse in other countries like Philippines will give you 5 points. earnings should not be lower than 24,000 pounds per annum this earnings of more than 24,000 per annum will give you 15 points. then certificate of sponsorship from your employer will give you 30 points. maintenance funds is 10 points and IELTS is 10 points. all in all you still meet the requirements of the home office as you meet 70 points. (this is the reason why some nurses outside UK and EU can still have a Tier 2 visa) my former housemate here in UK was just approved by BUPA as nurse in their nursing home and give her sponsorship with salary of 25,000 pounds per annum. she just receive her visa last march 2010 after switching from Tier 4 (student visa) to Tier 2 (work visa). nurse in a nursing home is not on the shortage occupation list but it is possible to have a work visa even your job is not on the shortage occupation list as long as you have an employer who will sponsor you. use the point calculator in UKBA website.

job market in UK is not good, really bad. actualy the truth is even in Australia, US, NZ job for nurses is not also good and that is the reality. but im not saying that it is impossibe its just hard to get a job here in UK but it is possible. so don't lose hope. patience is a virtue... Goodluck fellow nurses from all over the world.

I don't know anyone yet who has been deployed to the UK thru the greenfields..but i've read a couple of forums and their telling me that greenfields has helped a lot of fil nurses to get a job in the UK. I know ploy_jam is presently processing his papers now thru greenfields and he got the job after he passed the Intrview (im not sure if it was conducted by the NHS). You don't need to worry about the agreement paper. The agent told me i can sign it later.

I think you can also ask ploy_jam about the process..

Kudos Filipino Nurses! :-)

Hi guys! I am also employed by the NHS trust through greenfields. i was interviewed last april 15. Most of us signed a contract already either assigning us to central middlesex hospital or northwick park hospital. one of applicants has a sister who got a UK job through greenfields. I was also torn before between drake and greenfields since I fist passed the interview with the nurse consultant in drake. However, they still don't have any employers yet.

I just got a phone call from ASC Global(Drake Affiliated)yesterday after filing my application to them last month. Now i'm not so sure if i'll pursue my application to them because i'm working with greenfields right now. :-D

Do they have employers currently hiring right now? Im thinking of switching agency and move to working with greenfields. ASC is kinda slow right now. i passed the interview with the nurse consultant, but until now im still waiting. i dunno what they require from their applicants. i have a decent length of work experience in a huge and very busy tertiary referral hospital in the middle east. i got at least 8.0 in each module of the IELTS test. Im starting to feel insecure. I feel like I'm not good enough to be considered for an interview.:crying2:

how do u see the agency you are with right now? is it better? should i just withdraw my papers from ASC? I feel like i have been waiting for so long...

hmm.. imo, i don't think withdrawing your papers from the ASC is a good idea.. have you signed any contract to them? I haven't signed any contract to ASC and Greenfields so far and i'm processing my papers to both of them :D

It's like hitting two birds with one stone :)

I think you can do the same as long you haven't signed any agreement yet.

Nope haven't done that. Greenfields attached an agreement form together with other documents in the email they sent me. That agreement concerns me a lot hence i dint get back to them. Well I think i will have to wait for Greenfields if they have another hiring. I haven't heard from ASC anymore. Last time they told me about my NMC reg and that they would like to assist me with it. I'm still waiting for my first pack but until now it hasn't arrived yet. im losing hope and a great deal of patience as well:banghead:
