Hi my fellow Nursing Students
I want to know how old were you when you started Nursing school. RN's and LPN's are welcome to answer.
I'm in my early 30's, married with three babies, ages five and under. I'm a little nervous and worried that I may have started a little late at following my dream to become a nurse.
Thanks everyone:D
I'm 25 and starting school for my BSN next week. I have no experience in the healthcare field and originally went to school for criminal justice after high school...I always wanted to be a nurse but always thought I couldn't do it, wouldn't get into school etc...but I realized life's too short and I will never know until I actually take the chance. :)
Started pre-reqs at 43 after working as a medical assistant for 17 years. Now am starting an ADN program in a few weeks at 45, then will do an RN-BSN bridge. I wish I had done this 10 years ago, but I don't think I could have done it right out of high school, I wasn't focused enough.
I'm married and have a 4 year-old daughter. I'm interested to hear from other moms, especially single moms on how they manage to balance school work and family time. I'm worried my daughter will miss me and have a tough time with the transition. As I said, I'm not actually single, but my husband has to live in Washington DC (we are in Seattle) for work for the foreseeable future. He will be at home maybe one week a month. So it will be a difficult transition for my daughter who is accustomed to having both parents around. We will have pre-school and some family support for childcare, but I will likely be mostly on my own in the evenings. My daughter doesn't sleep very much either, so no marathon study sessions after she goes to bed. :-/ This arrangement was unexpected, but his work made him transfer, and well, obviously we need for him to be working!
How did you (or will you) manage the school/ family balance?
I'm starting nursing school next week and I am 25. I haven't been doing much within these past 3 years except for completing university-transferable credits online and taking mandatory high school math courses to be able to apply to a nursing program. Everything worked out great though and, while I'm very nervous about being a full-time student again, I am also kind of excited that I'm FINALLY getting one of my goals started.
