Hi my fellow Nursing Students

I want to know how old were you when you started Nursing school. RN's and LPN's are welcome to answer.

I'm in my early 30's, married with three babies, ages five and under. I'm a little nervous and worried that I may have started a little late at following my dream to become a nurse.

Thanks everyone:D

ADN 19-21, BSN 25-26, MSN 26-28, Post-MSN 32-34. Never stop learning. My husband is eventually going to get tired of me in school.

Specializes in ED.

I started nursing school when I was 30, divorced parent with 2 kids(4 and 2), By the Grace of God I will be graduating next year a month shy of my 33rd B-day. its never too late. The youngest in my cohort was 18 and the oldest was 50.

18 when I started. Will graduate in December at 21! :)

I'm just getting started at the ripe "old" age of 35. I honestly think that this is the best time for me to do this, for I wasn't as disciplined nor as driven as I need to be.

I'm 25 and starting school for my BSN next week. I have no experience in the healthcare field and originally went to school for criminal justice after high school...I always wanted to be a nurse but always thought I couldn't do it, wouldn't get into school etc...but I realized life's too short and I will never know until I actually take the chance. :)

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.

29 when I decided to go to nursing school.

Started Prereqs (for BSN ) at 30

Started Lvn school at 33

Will start RN school at 35, prayerfully!

Hello, I am 22 but will be 23 in a few days. I am starting nursing program in September. I have a baby girl 2.9 years old and a husband that acts like a baby sometimes.

Started when I was 17, will finish when I'm 20!! If I didn't decide to do nursing now I would've done it when I have more life experience. There's still many things I want to study.. So never to late to start :)

Started pre-reqs at 43 after working as a medical assistant for 17 years. Now am starting an ADN program in a few weeks at 45, then will do an RN-BSN bridge. I wish I had done this 10 years ago, but I don't think I could have done it right out of high school, I wasn't focused enough.

I'm married and have a 4 year-old daughter. I'm interested to hear from other moms, especially single moms on how they manage to balance school work and family time. I'm worried my daughter will miss me and have a tough time with the transition. As I said, I'm not actually single, but my husband has to live in Washington DC (we are in Seattle) for work for the foreseeable future. He will be at home maybe one week a month. So it will be a difficult transition for my daughter who is accustomed to having both parents around. We will have pre-school and some family support for childcare, but I will likely be mostly on my own in the evenings. My daughter doesn't sleep very much either, so no marathon study sessions after she goes to bed. :-/ This arrangement was unexpected, but his work made him transfer, and well, obviously we need for him to be working!

How did you (or will you) manage the school/ family balance?

By the time I finish pre-reqs, I will be 52-ish if I can go to school full-time. I'd like to attend a ABSN program, but haven't had my transcripts evaluated yet to see what classes will transfer

I'm starting nursing school next week and I am 25. I haven't been doing much within these past 3 years except for completing university-transferable credits online and taking mandatory high school math courses to be able to apply to a nursing program. Everything worked out great though and, while I'm very nervous about being a full-time student again, I am also kind of excited that I'm FINALLY getting one of my goals started.

I just turned 50, I am a grandma. I just started my second semester of nursing school, and it is like nothing I've ever experienced before. I love it!
