How old were you when you started Nursing School?

Hi my fellow Nursing Students

I want to know how old were you when you started Nursing school. RN's and LPN's are welcome to answer.

I'm in my early 30's, married with three babies, ages five and under. I'm a little nervous and worried that I may have started a little late at following my dream to become a nurse.

17, right out of high school, turned 18 in March of freshman year, went to four-year college and got BSN. Started MN at 29 and finished at 31 going part time because I had a baby by then.

I started nursing school at age 40 and sat for the NCLEX at age 42. My first charge nurse had been a nurse for 15 yrs....went to nursing school right out of high school! I was in awe of this woman! Honestly I do not think age is the issue regarding nursing school. What is important is how physically capable you are to do the work. Nursing can be back-breaking work sometimes, even with the latest equipment designed to assist with the heavy lifting! I am 55 and I'm still at it, although I no longer work med/surg. I'm in psych. When I went to nursing school at age 40, my thought was that I still had a good 25 years of work life to live, using the usual retirement age of 65 as my benchmark. Why not spend that time doing something you love! Now at 55, I see myself still with 15 years of productivity in me, God willing! So I am in the MSN program in nursing education. I may not be able to work at the bedside when I'm in my 60's as some still do, but I can teach!

Go for what you want and do not let a number stop you!

I was 25 when I became an LPN and will finish my RN program May 2014 on the cusp of turning 30 (June 2014).

Started at 34. Got my ADN this year at 36 and going for my BSN, will be 37 when I finish that!

43 with 4 kids. I think being a parent HELPS tremendously with the skills required.

I just started my ADN program this past monday, and I am 25. I will graduate May 2015 and be 27. Like others have said, age shouldn't matter a whole lot, just so long as they are able to do the work.:)

I start classes on Tuesday and turn 44 two weeks later.

I am 36, have three children ages 10, 8, and 5, and I start my BSN program next month and will graduate in June 2015!

I'm 32 and just started the program this week. I'll be 34 when I'm done. I feel like I'm doing this at the right age for ME (which is what matters). I think I'm at the lower-middle of the age range of my class, for what it's worth. I've spent a long time being very good at waiting tables, and am hoping some of those skills and work ethics translate over (prioritizing, time management, communication, caring, busting my butt, for just a few examples). I wouldn't have been ready 10-12 years ago.

I started nursing school when I was 18 and I graduated with my BSN when I was 22. Although I do not have any children, I had colleagues who were married and had children. You are never to old to start after your dreams! If you want to be a nurse, you can totally do it! Like anything, it takes hard work and dedication! :)

I'm 28 and finishing my first year at the end of this Fall, I'm class of 2015 :p. It is never too late long as you have desire, determination, and discipline. All the best
