How does nutrition compare . . . .

Published

I am trying to plan my spring semester and I am wondering how nutrition compares to other pre-reqs. On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the most difficult) how would you rate nutrition in difficulty and time needed to get an A?

Thanks for your opinion!

Well, I can't really compare it to other prereqs, but we just finished it in my LPN program.... We lost 5 students (they failed it). To me it wasn't that difficult. I would say it depends greatly on how up to speed you are with eating healthy honestly.

You learn alot about vitamins, and the deficiencies of such, what foods contain them etc. Alot about herbal suppliments, and their contraindications with certain drugs. Different kinds of fats, proteins, carbs. The roles of energy nutrients. Food exchanges, special diets for diabetics, heart disease etc. Food allergies, calories, measuring your body fat. Its actually a pretty complex subject.

Like I said I found the class interesting, and had a little knowledge going into it. My book directly correlated with www.mypyramid.gov So you my want to go there and surf around a bit.

Hope this helps a little

Good Luck

Unfortunately, I haven't taken many other pre-req's. But I can tell you for me, nutrition has been pretty easy. It's more busy work than anything. Diet study's etc... The reading is easy and I've spent maybe an average of 2-3 hours per week on the class. Easy A for me!

I took the class online. I thought the learning curve was pretty easy. The class had a good chunk of 'homework' though. But, overall, not too difficult. A lot of common sense stuff. Only a few weird diseases to memorize.

Maybe a 1, 1.5

1 or 2. This might have just been my teacher. I was in a short 10 week class for nutrition last semester, and pulled an easy A. However my class had some extra credit options involved. Just study adequately for tests and do assignments. Overall, the material is interesting and not very difficult.

Thanks for posting this great question! I'm wondering this too! :)

Nutrition was a cakewalk at my local community college. It had a fairly low level of difficulty, and I earned an 'A' grade in that class.

I made an 88 but it was very hard at my school. It was online and the questions were crazy. Test questions would be about a poll or a picture in the book, who memorizes that junk?! There was no real way to even study for it.

2. It's EASY. I'm taking it online and I spend about 20 minutes total per week on it, and the tests take me about 45 min (we have three), and the final project will probably take me 4 hrs total.

^^ This sounds like an interesting course.

I haven't taken nutrition yet but it's an area that I'm interested in and have done a lot of reading, etc. on my own. I don't know what the level of difficulty for this course is at my cc but I'm hoping it isn't too easy. There is a lot to nutrition, the way the body uses food, the chemistry of nutrition, eating for health, etc., etc. I'm paying for my education out of pocket and I like to get my money's worth of knowledge so I'd would feel ripped off if it was a an easy class.

I'd say a 3 or a 4. It has a lot of information but it has really helped me in my other pre-req's since it is so connected to them.
