Help with body cavities?
When I took this class, there was not near enough time to go through and learn all the models. Ask if your school has "open lab" where you go in on your own time, we did that alot. Also a bunch of us took our cameras in there and photographed the models, then went home and labeled the photographs and used them to study. Everything extra you can do helps with this class. Good luck!

Supposed to register for classes tomorrow... BUT they are already FULL!!!
Hi Tami Lee Your fellow Sierra classmate here, I just wanted to add it makes a difference what class you are trying to add. If it's a lab science they will only add so many because of the size limitations in the labs. For instance I took Chem 2A this semester and there were probably 20 or so students on the first day wanting to add, she only added like 5 or 6 cause there wasn't room in the lab. However, the ones she added were the ones that came back on the second class meeting, so be persistant! Good luck.

Tested Positive for Influenza A, scared for my family
I had to respond to this because it is not accurate. My doctor gave me a standard flu test, it was positive for Influenza type A. At that point they send it on to the county health department for further testing to determine if it's swine which can take 7-10 days for results. He informed me I will be contacted when the results from the county are in. Sometimes these tests can take time and results are not always immediate. I don't believe there is a "standard" procedure in every dr's office or even every county.

Tested Positive for Influenza A, scared for my family
I started having flu like symptoms on Monday and by Thursday I still had a high fever, unbearable body aches and chills so I decided to go in. My swab was positive for Influenza A, so they sent it on to the county health dept. to determine if it's swine. Is it true that swine is the only influenza A virus circulating now? Can I assume it was swine? It is now Friday night and I feel much better, luckily for me I didn't have any of the horrible respiratory complications. My fear is for my kids now. I have an 11, 9 and 4 year old at home. I am just a pre-nursing student so I would love some advice. I read through the thread of swine fatalities with no underlying medical issues, esp with young kids and I am terrified. Obviously I know that if any of them start having flu symptoms, off to the doctor we go for the anti-viral medication. Other than camp out in front of the hospital I'm not sure what else besides the medication I can do to ensure if they do get sick it will end favorably, and does medicating ensure that? Nurses, what would you do in my shoes to protect your kids if they start getting sick? thanks in advance for your help... Darci

Any off the counter books you recommend for A&P?
i bought "atlas of the human body" from costco author is Beverly McMillan. Summarizes things pretty good, but doesn't go into the detail you need to be successful in that course, if it was me, I'd get the required text book and start reading that. The other thing that helped me alot was Frank Netter's "Atlas of Human Anatomy" no physiology, but a great reference for learning anatomy, expensive, but I got mine cheaper on Ebay. A good reference to always have!

Record lecture and put to ipod...
I did this, I used a digital recorder, then either listened to it right from there or uploaded it to my computer. From there I could convert to mp3 and do anything with it! I even e-mailed some lectures to a couple of classmates. The other thing I did which helped a ton, was to record my own voice quizzing myself off flashcards and such, then I could listen to my own notes whenever I wanted, like while cooking or folding laundry!

How many hours did you study A&P and what grade did you get?
more hours than I could count, like other posters said, some things required tons of time for me like learning the bones, features of bones, muscle names, insertions, origins, actions etc, nerves and blood vessels. Other things didn't require as much, but over all I studied more for that class than any other I've taken and I did get an A. Hope that helps!

Waiting 2 1/2 years in Cali, feeling like giving up
Hi I just wanted to say I feel for ya! I am also in the sac area (live in Auburn) and am taking pre-req's at Sierra. I don't really have advice for you because it sounds like your only option is to continue to apply to American River. If it was me I definately would of been taking classes while waiting, anything just to get my GPA up, plus I think AR offers pharmacology, I know that doesn't help you now though as you indicated it's too late to get on Yuba's wait list. So, apply 2 more times and keep your fingers crossed!! Good luck to you..

Netter's Human Anatomy Flash cards
I have Netter and am in the middle of anatomy right now. LOVE them... I carried them with me in my purse everywhere and it really helped me learn the bones, muscles, nerves etc.. I had heard Netter's were the best so that's why I bought them, don't know much about the others out there. hth!

How does nutrition compare . . . .
Unfortunately, I haven't taken many other pre-req's. But I can tell you for me, nutrition has been pretty easy. It's more busy work than anything. Diet study's etc... The reading is easy and I've spent maybe an average of 2-3 hours per week on the class. Easy A for me!

Another question about science courses
Thanks for your reply, so are you saying take physiology before anatomy? Also, I don't think I can take chem at another college, I've thought of that, but I just live too far away, and with 3 kids I don't want to make school more difficult than it already will be. Ideally I know I should take chem first and then anatomy and then physiology. But there is no way to do that unless I wait until next fall, wasting this coming spring semester....

Another question about science courses
Hi everyone.... My first time posting, but I've been a lurker for about a year! Thanks to everyone for such a great informative site. My question is in regards to the sciences. I am trying to finish my pre-req's by the fall of 2010. My school has anatomy and physiology as seperate classes. I really want to take anatomy this coming spring, but I can't take physiology until I have chemistry. So I can take chem next fall and then physiology in the spring of 2010. So anatomy and physiology I would take about a year apart. Do you think this would work? I can't take chem this spring because it doesn't fit in with my schedule, so that's not an option. If I can take anatomy this spring, I will finish a semester early than if I wait. I just want to make sure it won't make physiology harder for me if anatomy isn't "fresh" in my brain. Any help would be appreciated, and I look very forward to coming back to this site again and again when I'm stuck and need help in a class!! Nurse hopeful And mom to 3! Darci
