How much did your nursing program cost overall? (LPN, ADN, BSN, etc.)

Published

Hi everyone! I am curious to how much you all had to pay to get your nursing in licensure. I am asking this because their are certain nursing programs I would like to attend, but I'm very apprehensive on paying well over 60,000 for a BSN or any other diploma/associates/degree.

Or should I just focus more on the quality of the education? Because I live in the heart of Chicago and there's no close BSN program near me that isn't below the cost of 60,000+.

Please respond.

I Never saw the bill but from what my brother says around 18k for my BSN

Wow that is cheap.

I already had a bachelor's and placed or tested out of many gen ed classes for ADN at community college. I think the total cost would have been around 7-8K, but I was fortunate enough to earn scholarships. No free government money for me since I already have a degree.

Getting my BSN online at the same time through a state university and that will be another 10K paying that all out of pocket.

Even if I had to actually pay everything on my own it would be under 20k for the eventual BSN.

There is always a cheaper way. For example I could have forgone the BSN and got a hospital to pay for it. Or I could have gotten CNA first, gotten hospital job and had them pay for community college. I am in classes with students whose entire ADN and then BSN will be paid for by the hospital.

You keep talking about how expensive it is to live in Chicago. Why don't you consider relocating? You don't HAVE to stay there under a court order, do you?

Woah that is mega cheap. I wish something like that was out here in Chicago but nothing is cheap in Chicago. I mean it literally costs $1.15 for a small cup of tap water at McDonald's.

I am not yet finished nursing school (I guess technically I have not begun :whistling:), but if I stay at my community college my degree should be $10,000 (plus about $12,000 for the BSN). Half of that, if not a little more, will be covered by my pell grants and the rest I have been paying, and will continue to do so out of pocket. If I go to my back up option, it will cost about $30,000 and I will graduate with a BSN.

I always qualified for tons of financial aid and worked my tail off for scholarships

Prereqs at community college: Classes covered by FA... maybe a total of $400 for books

BSN at public university: $7k and oodles of FA and many scholarships. Close to $1000 for books on top of that

It looks as if I got off rather easily compared to most who went the BSN route. One of the few times it pays to be dirt poor :p

ADN was $10,000 (prereqs, uniforms, books, supplies included). RN to BSN with a program affiliated with my hospital system will be just under $5000 (not factoring in any possible financial aid.)

I joined the military out of high school. I got out when I was 22 and now 26 and almost done with college and it was paid for 100% with my GI Bill. Not a bad option. Although from 18-22 it wasn't easy in the military. You can also join and take classes while you are in (which I didn't). You can also join an ROTC program to be commissioned when your done and they give you a couple of scholarships while you are going to school. Hope this helps.

LPN 1k in 1994 Books tuition uniforms incl at public voc-tech (no loans)

RN 5,500 through Excelsior Grad 2011 (no loans)

BSN Online about 15k (minimal loans)

Used as many CLEPS as possible to save $$$

MSN-FNP online/hybrid 30k (all loans)

All programs nationally and regionally accredited. Considered Duke/Georgetown for my MSN but refuse to pay that much for anything short of an MD.

Look into Lynchburg college for their second degree. Is only 25k or less for the program for two years, and you get your BSN. Living expenses is pretty decent here too. Just started the program, and I love it.
