I would never have the gall to ask my manager what he makes.

My understanding is that its $70,000 to start. No thanks. My manager has been a nurse for 17 years and I have been a nurse since May. With enough overtime, I'll make more than her this year. And I don't I won't carry a pager at all times, come in to work nights if we aren't staffed, deal with administration and their BS face to face week after week, etc, etc, etc. I know other hospitals in our area pay managers hourly and also have assistant managers. That would be a different story.

LOL....nurse managers coming in when not properly staffed? Ummm I want to work were you work. My nurse manager would never do that. In fact this weekend we had 27 patients on the floor and as of when I left the next morning we were to have one tech, one lpn, and on rn. Now I'm not sure how many people they got from staffing but I know one day when I worked we had 2 techs and 2rn's for 26 and we were getting 6 admits all of which were arriving conviently 1-2 hrs prior to shift change and she left at right on time that day. Staffing was nice enough to provide us with one more tech from 3-11 that day....how sweet of them. As for how much she makes...not sure. I was browsing the internet for new jobs and I saw that they were looking for a new director of HR at one of our facilities. It said that the starting rate was 100-140K....meanwhile I make 18.1/hr. It depressed me.

This is not something that is discussed among staff members.

Members of the professional middle class typically do not discuss their salaries and various forms of compensation openly with subordinate employees or members of the public.

Don't know...they make a good salary I'm sure. And I NEVER seen them stay over or work when we were short staff which is often.
Are you looking to get into management or are you just asking out of curiosity?

From an ex-manager's perspective: Yes, the money is good.......until you factor in the hours working on paperwork at home, having to carry the phone and deal with middle-of-the-night crises, coming in on weekends because you were too busy to get anything done during the week or because there is NO ONE to cover shifts. Managers regularly put in 60-hour weeks, so if you divide your 'salary' into the actual number of hours worked, you wind up making less per hour than the average LPN.
But money is the least of it. Your "time off" is never totally your own, and you are responsible not only for your own work but for everyone else's as well. You can never completely relax and not worry about work.....and that really wears you down after several years of it.
It's SO not worth it.
JMHO.
