How much do you LPN's make?

Published

Hello all! Im 19 and looking into the LPN program through Boces in my area, and I was just curious as to how much a LPN makes. Especially as a new LPN, any comments will be appreciated.

I make $20/hr at a clinic job and the same amount at a LTC I PRN at. This is after 6 years experience. Starting pay for you will vary on your location and field you will be working in. I'm in ohio and starting pay for new LPNs in my area is around $19/ hr for LTC and $15/hr for clinic jobs.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Pay is very much dependent on where you live as well as the specialty. For instance, an LPN in rural Arkansas might earn $14/hr whereas an LVN in San Francisco might earn $26+/hr.

In addition, hospitals and clinics tend to pay less than nursing homes, private duty, home health, and corrections (jails and prisons).

Specializes in LTC and Pediatrics.

As has been said, it varies on where you are in the country. I live in Iowa and I earn $16 at the LTC I where I work scheduled hours and I earn $25 an hour working per diem through a staffing agency. Had to work a year before signing on with the staffing agency.

I live in NJ and I was making $23/hr full time in a minor surgical office setting for 4 years. I just started working full time in LTC and make $27/hr. Good luck in whatever you choose. =)

NY State LPNs make $35915 starting and I believe somewhere around 44000 is the max. That doesn't include shift differential or Over Time. Also, they do have a 'downstate' adjustment giving people who work closer to NYC more money. Other non-state positions seem to sit from $13 - $17/hr. I'm assuming $19/hr is the average for Upstate NY. Not too bad considering the cost of living is cheaper than some other areas. But as always - never enough! Hahaha!

Specializes in A myriad of specialties.

I live in Oregon, make $4800/month so around $30/hour.

As others have said already it really varies. Not just where you live but what type of LPN job you take. I made $25 an hour in California 7 years ago in a specialist type position Critical care night shift. Here in Florida typical nursing home jobs pay 15 to 18 per hour, where as home health jobs (what I do now) pay 15 to 20 per visit. As a side note I highly recommend home health if you are proficient in injections and wound care. The only thing to consider there is no benefits and you pay for your taxes at the end of the year or quarterly. The good part about this is you pay much less taxes because of deductions for millage, supplies u buy, ect.

I work home care here in NJ with two different agencies I make $30/hr at full time and $27/hr at the part time

In new York where I work as a cna the lpns make $23 an hour. They pushing pills and changing dressings.
