How many uniforms should I buy?

Published

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how many uniforms I should buy for the first semester of the nursing program or maybe how many you go through in a week? Is there any other supplies I will need more than 1 of?

Thanks

Wow, I'm surprised at all the "they're expensive" responses. I just went to Savers and picked up a few tops and pants. But we only have to have ciel scrubs (no flares) and a lab coat. No particular brand requirements. I got three tops and two pants and one coat. I figure to have a spare set in my car just in case, and the extra top in case one of the others gets too stained to save. But I'll have Shout wipes in my pockets!

Yeah, I tried on the less expensive scrubs and realized pretty quickly that they are not made for my body type. I'm tall and I'm pretty sure that all the people that design scrubs are short and stocky. The pants were too short and didn't come in a tall length, the ones that did were too long. Others were too big in the waist, but the size smaller were too snug... The only ones that fit me were Grey's Anatomy, the most expensive ones that I saw. I got them at the outlet and they were still $22 for the tops and $25 for the bottoms. I could've went with the less expensive ones, but I figure if I'm wearing them for over 12 hours straight, I want to be comfortable.

I'm buying 2 pairs because I have clinicals 2x a week. So one for each day. My school's uniforms are surprisingly inexpensive (I think at least) since the local scrub store has a contract with them where students get a 25%+ discount on the school uniforms and an extra 20% off on everything else in the store. Not too shabby of a deal :)

I am starting my 4th semester in a couple of weeks. I have clinicals 2 days a week. I own one uniform and wash it in between clinicals. I had to buy it from a specific store and it was $35 for one uniform. I refuse to buy another one. They are expensive and ugly. They let me slid with using different pants (the whole uniform is white - I wear white scrub pants to work so I just used my work pants). So my top is starting to look a little old, but nobody seems to care so I'm good.

About the only thing I don't like about my uniform for class is the patch. It is huge, they should just put a sign on my back that says look at me I am a greenhorn! Plus we have our badges. But I cannot wait to get my scrubs. I got to have navy blue and some nice croks. But when I start working I think I am going to get nursing shoes. I don't want to get my feet wet.

Wow seems like some schools are requiring you buy the scrubs from them because solid color scrubs are not expensive. My school doesn't care where you buy the scrubs as long as it is Royal Blue. So you can buy it online, at a uniform store or Walmart, they don't care. The logo though you do have to go to the uniform store for that and that's $4 which includes the sewing. Scrubs are really not that expensive especially if you buy them as a scrub set from online there like $14-16 (that's how much my Dickie and Urbane scrubs cost online) that's the same price as flip flops. I wouldn't buy your uniforms from the school suggested uniform shop buy your scrubs online like Amazon which has free shipping for Prime members or Walmart ($8-$12) save some money for the more important stuff for school. :twocents:

Yeah, my school made us buy from a specific vendor online...Dove, I think. We were told we needed a minimum 2 sets. Well, ONE set of scrubs (solid green top & bottom) and lab coat, plus shipping about 100 miles, cost $205....I only bought one, because school has not even dispersed aid yet! It will be my first term at nursing school and I wondered if it was common to make students spend this much money on uniforms. Reading the thread, I guess not. I would much rather choose 15 dollar scrubs.

Yowza! I don't think so!

Yeah, scrubs from Dove is really expensive. I just bought mine and they were 47 for the top, 31 for the pants, and 50 for the lab jacket. My school told us to get 2 sets, but I only got 1 due to the expensive prices.

Why are scrubs from Dove so expensive?? It the quality superior or something?? Our uniform, top(17$) and bottom(19$), only cost 36$. That's still way less than your top!

Lol, that's what I'm guessing. They say that their scrubs don't shrink and they are sweatshop-free. So I'm guessing you are paying for better wages and material. I have to say though, these scrubs are pretty thick and ruggedy.

I have 3 days of clinical so I bought 3 set of scrubs. I could wear business casual on the data collection day but throwing on scrubs is much easier.

I have a total of 4 tops and 5 bottoms. I had two gold tops then we switched to black tops ( YES!!!!! ) and i have a ton of black pants and one set of EMS pants that I wear in the ICU.
