I was kind of a lucky fellow. I decided to pursue nursing school and only had enough time to get the prerequisites completed for only the one school in my area (ADN). I applied to the one school and got in on my first try.
This was my route as well. I actually was going to school for a tech degree but after learning about the Neonatal specialty and NICU nurses/Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, I knew there wasn't any other profession I would rather be in. I spent a year finishing pre-reqs and now I'm in clinicals. Also my degree is ADN.
I applied to 5 programs and was rejected by 1, wait listed for 2, conditional acceptance by one, and full acceptance by one. I applied to a mix of ADN, BSN, ABSN, and DEMSN.
So even though I was rejected I still only went through one round of applications and am currently attending the program that fully accepted me (ABSN).
Got accepted into my first adn program back in 2011, but failed my first semester . I wasn't taking school serious ( i was young, and didn't want that responsibility on me), now I'm a little older and applied to a bsn and got accepted, I'm starting on the 17 my first semester. I'm planning to give my all.
I knew exactly what school I wanted to go to for my BSN so I never even considered applying anywhere else. I was not even given an interview the first application cycle, though I was not finished with all of my prerequisites. The next year I was accepted after having finished all my prerequisites. I also used the time to complete my upper division non nursing coursework which is making my life a lot easier now.
