Hi! I am new here. I am planning are starting nursing school in June but, here is my question. I am married, a mother of 2 small children and I work full time. I am just curious as to how many of you are in the same boat? And how did you make it work. I want to be a nurse so bad. I wanted to do this 2 yrs ago but talked myself out of it. But I am going for it this year. I just need some encouragement I guess! I am starting from the bottom and the hill is SOOO BIG! I am a little scared! :o

Thank you guys SOOOOO much! I appreciate all of you replying to my post! It is VERY encouraging to know that there are people out there like me! Dont ask my why I thought I was the only one!

Well anyway, my other problem is I really dont know where to start. I am going to go talk to someone at College to find out exactly what classes I need first. But i will let you know how it goes! I am sooo excited!!:roll I will be so proud of myself! if you dont mind me saying!:D

i work full time and go to school part time right now im killing myself with 2 science classes. the commute can be tiring but i do it ! I also have a very curious 61/2 year old I ususally designate saturday to be with her and do the things that she would like to do! Ladies , with a prayer and dedication we will all be nurses!

God bless u ! and Good luck on your studies:)

Hi everyone,

I am curious as to what home business are some of you in. I see some of you say you work at home. Just curious as to what kinds of businesses and if you are making money with it.

I am hoping to be in Real Estate while I am going to school.

Thanks

I am a mom as well. I have 2 kids (both girls) ages 2 and 5 and I also homeschool and carry a full time course load each semester.

I also do volunteer work for our homeschool group and a local food coop group so I am always busy! I mean, what mom isn't busy? lol

You can definatly do it though! My first semester back to school I enrolled in 14 hours and no one (not even my husband) though I could do it and I walked away with straights A's!

I spend all day with my kids and take classes in the evenings and some online classes as well (when I was doing all my basics, not so much anymore). It has worked out well. I study when both girls are in bed for the night and here and there on the weekends. Also study a bit (or nap) when my youngest is napping.

Its a lot of work but I love it!!!

Hi everyone,

I have two, actually. My first one is as an editor for a market research company (ie: mystery shopping company). I've worked for this company for going on 6 years and make very good money, enough so that I was able to quit my fulltime job when my oldest child was just a few months old.

My second job is my home business - I'm an herbalist and I own an internet retail business, where I sell the herbal products I make in my workshop.

I'm looking forward to finishing my first year of nursing school and getting a job as an extern, which will allow me to quit my editing job. My business, however, I will continue to run and grow, and hopefully at some point my husband can take over parts of it.

I am going to graduate in May from a BSN program, am a mother of a 3 year old, the spouse, the house and all that stuff. Once clinical rotations started in 3rd and 4th year I could no longer work. I think it depends on the school but we were at lecture all day Monday, hospital Monday night and lots of paperwork for Tuesday morning. Often many of us would stay up until 2 or 3 am getting care plans done, memorizing meds, etc. etc. all to be at the hospital at 6 am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Lecture and usually a test on Fridays. Not saying you can't do it I just couldn't work with that kind of schedule and a family. You may wan't to check with your school to see what their schedules are like for full time students and see if in 3rd and 4th year you can work at one of the University hospitals as a student nurse, I know many people did that because you were already there! For me it was worth not working, I was able to get a lot out of nursing school and have already secured a job because I was on my game on those clinical days. If you really want to do it you can and it will all work out! Good luck :)

LOTS of student/mommy folks here (and some student/daddy ones too!) :)

I work FT (42 hours/week), take classes 3/4-time online (chemistry, literature and philosophy at the moment), have two little boys (5 and 2) and am separated from my husband (who does not support us emotionally, financially, or any other sort of way). I've applied to a BSN program and hope to get into the class that begins in July.

I feel your pain! LOL :D

Anyway, I have 3 children 11,8, and 3. I also work full-time nights, :

and take 3 classes per semester. Nursing program starts this fall and I plan to continue full-time work. Working 12hr shifts on the weekend nights enables me to do this while school is M-F. It is difficult, but you must have great time management. Purplekath's post could be hung up on the fridge, it is an excellent game plan! I also have 3 friends doing the same as me, kids, husband and full-time work with school.

BTW, Oh man, Manna! Been there done that (but not for a nursing degree at that time) You hang in there, and you'll inspire hundreds! Buena Suerte! SG

I worked full time during school, but had to work the 3-11 shift. I worked as a CNA and It was a pleasent experiance working and going to school.

Good luck to you. It was not easy.

I start school this fall and I am going to have to drop down to part-time work. I am a single parent. I have a vivacious 2-year old daughter. I am going solicit help from any and every body in my family (including her father). Where as before I didn't want to depend on any family because I felt as though it was not their responsiblity, now I feel as though it is a blessing to have a family that is willing to be there for us and help us so I am going to use their help at all possible times. Other than that, I (start school this fall) am working on a firm bedtime for her each and every night so that by the time nursing school actually starts, that won't be a problem. It's a little harder to do this because we have a one bedroom apartment and she doesn't really want to sleep unless I am right there. I am going to tape my lectures and listen to them all day every day. I am going to get an NCLEX-RN review book so that i can practice analyzing the questions to help me better prepare for the test during school. I know that you can do it. You have to pray and have faith that as long as your willing to help yourself, then God will definitly support you and provide a way for you to make it through school.

Haven't started the nursing classes yet, but I have a hubby and a 5-year-old son and work from home as a medical transcriptionist (part-time). I'm just thankful it is a two year degree! I can make it through two years...I can make it through two years... :chuckle

Just a response to all you full time students, Yes I am a mother of three 7,8 and 11. I am in my first semester of nursing, the only difficult thing is that there if no flexibility at all, so you have to have a great backup for childcare. Those instructors are brutal and could give a care if you have kids or not. It is hard in that sense. I just wanted to pass that along. Good Luck
