Hi! I am new here. I am planning are starting nursing school in June but, here is my question. I am married, a mother of 2 small children and I work full time. I am just curious as to how many of you are in the same boat? And how did you make it work. I want to be a nurse so bad. I wanted to do this 2 yrs ago but talked myself out of it. But I am going for it this year. I just need some encouragement I guess! I am starting from the bottom and the hill is SOOO BIG! I am a little scared! :o

Haven't started the nursing classes yet, but I have a hubby and a 5-year-old son and work from home as a medical transcriptionist (part-time). I'm just thankful it is a two year degree! I can make it through two years...I can make it through two years... :chuckle

Thats cool. I would like to find something to do from home that will make some money. I am trying to get my Real Estate license so when I am ready to go to RN school I will be able to stay home and work. I don't plan to work alot in the office. I will have my own office in my home. I also have some hook up with a lender who is a friend of mine. He is also willing to work with me and be my lender. I think I will work that because it is a money maker.

I have 3 girls about to be 8 and 5 and a wonderful hubby. I am hoping to be able to start the RN part Spring or fall 2005. I am in CNA class now. I think this will be good because some of the schools I have looked at have a CNA to LVN program and I can probably get through to RN pretty quick. I am ready to get through this and make some money and be able to help and care for people like I want to.

I have been in the medical field for about 8 years and since I have been out I have been really missing it and ready to go back. I am active duty now in the Army National Guard and I will be happy when I can find a job that will let me resign and leave it alone.

I wish you all the best with school and career. I am Sounthern California so I hope to meet some nursing friends soon.

Take care and God Bless

I just started school again. I had to change jobs so I could get some help with working around my schedule. I am a weekend employee, and I also pick up a couple of days of 4 hour shifts. I work a total of 32 hours a week and am considered a full time employee. I also go to school full time, and have 5 children at home (one a 6 y/o grandson).

Hopefully, I will be accepted to BSN program in the fall, and will be completely busy for the next 3.5 yrs, but I can accept that. Hubby is helpful, and so are the kids (to a point! LOL!)

I know if I can do it, so can you.... Hang in there and good luck! :)

I just needed to tell all those hard working mothers/employees and at the same time nursing students how proud i am of you all and how much strength it gives me to hear your stories. I am finishing my pre reqs and 5 months pregnant and you can not imagine how worried i am of how i am going to do the program and leave my baby alone. I am not planning to start until spring of 2005 when all my pre reqs will be done, but my baby will only be 6 months then and i wonder if i could ever leave his/her side. I am really nervous....

I feel for you, I am assuming this is your first child. I have 3 children ages 11, 8, and 3yrs. I am just now ready to go to nursing school this fall, not because of prereqs, etc. It is because I thought I would be able to leave my last baby, but when the time came - I could not! I have always worked full-time, but at night so I've never had to deal with all-day daycare. Lots of people do though, and the children are fine. I am just a wimp until they are preschool age. So, good luck to you, things will work out one way or another! SG

I am currently in the part time lpn program. I am taking my pre reqs while in classes. I was called in a year earlier than I thought I would, and did not want to pass up this opportunity as they only have 40 openings with 300 applicants. I work 40 hours a week, and have seven children. I have been out of school for 15 years, so I had to relearn study habits, only around a lot more complicated lifestyle than just trying to work around hs activities...lol

I have been accepted at a local community college for the Fall semester to work on my Science prereqs. I work FT as an Accountant (YUCK -- on my way out now and will be going to Nursing school by next year -- fingers crossed), married with 2 kids, one 4 yo and the youngest is 3 months. Aside from my DH, in-laws are awesome at times like this when caring for the little ones. I plan on quitting my job once I get to Nursing school because the program that I am planning to get into (accelerated BSN) is a FT program, and I don't think that my firm will be that lenient with me if I request to work PT. It is going to be a lot of hard work: blood, sweat and tears combined. But with determination, and the love, understanding and support of the family, the only person that would stop me from getting what I want -- the letters RN after my last name -- is myself.

Specializes in Acute rehab/geriatrics/cardiac rehab.

I'm married, the mom of 5 teens and a full time student (not working...unless you count housework, chauffeur duty, conflict mediator, etc). I'm in my last semester. I have to applaud everyone who is able to juggle school, kids, spouse and work also. Wow balloons and a dance for you. :balloons:

Enfermerasg and MOm and Nurse,

Thank you both so much for your replies. :) I feel so motivated when i hear from you guys. There are times when i feel like I am never going to start the program, but I can do it and your inspiration gives me the strength.
