working on your BSN? I'm only asking this because the BSN curriculum has so many more classes (in my expereince because I've been to both - I'm on my 6th college), and the classes are more difficult. For instance, before you can even start my first nursing clinical course at my university you need to have a minimum of 2.9 B- in the following courses:
General Biology II
General Chemistry
College Algebra
Psychology
Organic Chemistry
Biological Chemistry
Human Anatomy Lecture
Human Physiology Lecture
Human Physiology Lab
Cadaver Lab
Developmental Psychology
Junior level Writing
Senior level Writing
Microbiology
Microbiology Lab
Human Genetics
Explorations in Nursing
Self-Health and Wellness
Clinical Nutrition (basically another bio-chem class)
Basic Pathophysiology
Not to mention the general education classes.
So, not to piss anyone off, but when I see "I have a 4.0 gpa", I'm always wondering if it was just the three prerequisits you had to take at your community college or if you had to take all the classes I had to take before even getting accepted into your nursing program. I'm very proud of my 2.9 gpa considering the very difficult classes I had to take.:chair:

Mine too, by 10%. UNLV is a very good school, but nursing is not it's primary foucus and NSH is only a year old and some lab's aren't up to par, plus they haven't graduated a nursing class yet to know what their pass rate is.
I'm happy with my CC.

Oh yeah...so's ours. We're at 100%, which was another big factor on my deciding to go with the CC.
And since I've already got a bachelors degree, I could get into a masters program without going the BSN route if I really want to. If I want, I'll go the RN-BSN route at a better uni than is here. There is one that has a local evening program in a satellite building, and there are several around that have online programs. I'm avoiding my alma mater like the plague. :chuckle

Unbelievable! And I thought it was just my area!
lizz...if you don't mind me asking, what so cal school are you at? I grew up in Ventura and went to college in San Diego. I looked at san diego cc's and at the time, late 90's, the wait list was 2 years after you finished all pre reqs. SDSU was so packed that you couldn't even apply until they got the wait list down.

Excellent point. I never make claims about my grades. Afterall, how can you believe any of it?
Didn't you know that everyone on the internet has a 4.0?
Now, if I can just get the people in class to quit asking about grades too ...
I hate all of that competitive, jealous stuff.

I'm actually a couple of hours from Vegas, over in the High Desert near San Bernardino: Victor Valley College.
They usually have a two semester wait. But they've just switched to GPA preference. If you get top grades, you're in. (Although, like most schools around here, they still make everybody wait at least one semester anyway.)
So to Jen...Are you asking us if our GPA starts to drop because we get so burnt out on taking SO MANY classes, additional classes?
Yes, I am.
As I posted twice in this thread I suppose my 4.0 gpa started dropping once I started at my current university because of the level of the classes I am taking. At the cc's (three I've been to) they were mainly just gen ed classes. So, I've corrected what I said about the CC classes being easier twice.
When I started back for my BSN in 99, I was really proud of the fact that my GPA was high, my school is tough all around and I was taking one class per semester. Now that I have to go full time, I am beginning to slip. Just not enough time to study full bore for 12 credits and work and manage the family and house. It kills me that the "teeny-boppers" that make up most of my classes just slide on through with close to the minimum grades while complaining about how hard the tests are and crowing about how drunk they were the last weekend, and then hanging out around the bulletin board when grades are posted in order to use process of elimination to figure out who got what grade. I am always happy to make a study group, even if it is "virtual" but the "kiddoes" are usually "too busy". THIS is NOT a bust on the generation younger than me, just a short rant on the incredible competition for grades within my cohort.
Originally posted by ilielI don't think you should leave, there are plenty of us here who understand and support. Don't let one bad post make you leave. I think there was a misunderstanding, who cares what anyone's GPA is here!
If no one cared, no one would post that they earned a 4.0. They SHOULD be very pround of their grades and should be able to post about how proud they are of themselves and SHOULD be able to receive support from others on this board.

YEP! That's the ONLY difference I have noticed, too. I LOVE the CC environment.
