How many patients do you have as an LVN

Published

I'm just wondering what the average patient load is for a nurse in LTC.

Specializes in LTC, Memory loss, PDN.

24 to 28 on a skilled wing with a CMA and 2 to 3 CNAs

quite comfortable on a normal day with OT and PT around

sadly, there aren't any normal days

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

In LTC I've had as few as 12 residents on a skilled Medicare/rehab floor as as LVN during the day shift, and as many as 68 residents on a long term floor during the midnight shift.

Specializes in ER, Trauma, Med-Surg/Tele, LTC.

I used to have 35-45 patients on a skilled unit during 7-3 and 3-11 shifts.

Specializes in Psych, LTC/SNF, Rehab, Corrections.

39 to 46. Depending on census.

2 med aides

5 CNAs if we're lucky. 4 CNAs...usually.

20 on rehab hall day/eve shifts with 2 CNAs, 1LPN

21 on LTC halls day/eve shifts with 2 CNAs, 1LPN

57-63 (all halls) midnight shift with 3 CNAs, 1LPN

On nursing rehab, 3-11 shift I have 27 patients with 3 CNA'S.

The last place I worked I had 26 patients on one hall and 22 on another hall. I worked day shift and rotated primarily between those two halls.

I left LTC about a decade ago. It was hell. Depending on which site I worked I could have upto 29 fully non function patients who were either lifts or demented. 42 in a geriatric day programme and 18 in overnight respite. Usually 3 NAs were available.

When I went to acute care and found out I had 3 patients on dayshift, I thought I'd died and gone to nursing heaven.

I have 25 alzheimers patients with 2 CNAs if I'm lucky but most of the time 1 CNA.

Specializes in Long-term/Geriatrics, Home Health.

I have roughly 30 pts. No med aides and 2 CNAs on my hall. And 12 hr shifts
