I'm engaged to a med student but we actually met in high school (yeah I know, how cheesy!!). It has its advantages and disadvantages-- we both understand what the other person is going through with school work, difficult patients, weird hours, etc.... but sometimes we talk waaaay too much about medical stuff!
I met my husband at work- which happened to be the local Mental Health facility. He is an LPN and I am an RN. We have been fortunate enough to work together most of our 26 years together. In fact I am his boss! Pretty cool huh?! We spend 24/7 together, and our relationship is stronger than ever. We know a lot of 'couples' in the medical community. They understand what you are talking about, why you get upset with things that the rest of the world deems "silly". I would have it no other way!
Just my 2 cents.
My spouse is an RN. He's in hospital administration after 20 years in ICU. We met at a church when someone said..."oh, here's John, he's a nurse too...." Been together over six years. It's nice having someone to vent to who understands. (As much as an ICU nurse and administrator can under the "real world of nursing" on med-surg...just kidding!!! LOL Now that he's in administration I tease him for not being a "real nurse".)
My boyfriend is a GEEK. His interests lie in computer programming. He loves learning about AI programming. He is a few credits shy of a genetics degree, but is not interested in it for medical reasons; only to try and figure out patterns. I adore him.
Cubby your relationship sounds ideal!
Yeti1313LPN, I think our guys are probably fairly similar. Aren't geeks the greatest?

sounds like my boyfriend. we also met in high school. but mine story is much more chessy than emerald's.. he was a football player and i was a cheerleader. anyway he is a med student, but oringinally was a computer programing major. i think once he found out what i was doing he copied:) sike i dont know. he is such a dork i tease him all the time with his computer stuff. my frineds and family laugh at us because they say we are too smart amnd too geeky. we talk alot of med stuff and also computer stuff. we also just took a phlebotomy class together. we are somewhat engaged. i call it a pre-engagement because i want a much bigger ring(ha,ha,ha)
I'm married to a nurse. It's great to be married to someone in the same field as I am because we can relate about the abuse nurses go through, the lousy pay, the long hours, the unfair nurse/patient ratios, the admin who doesn't give a hoot as long as they get their annual bonuses and fat paychecks, the public relations issues with patients and family members, the nursing staff that eats their own (jealousy, pmsing, backstabbing, catfighting, you name it........), and so forth. I don't think I could be married to someone not in the medical field because there is no way they'd relate to what nursing is all about. Case in point: my ex was not in the medical field, and he wasn't any support at all in that aspect.

Just a curious question. I have not known that many people in the medical community, but of those I did every single one either married or dated someone else in a medical profession. Is it really that common? And if so did you meet your SO at work?
A totally silly question!
