Maybe later in the 'reguilding phase. As a WHCNP I don't feel qualified to work during this 'disaster phase." For those who ARE going fcheck out One Nurse at a Time www.onenurseatatime.org for a possible scholorship!
I am signed up to go with nationalnurse, through California Nurses Association. I won't be going until at least March. My skill set is not emergency/disaster and I have personal plans before then. There are many organizations working to get nurses there. I stumbled on this site and they are working with hospitals to pay regular wages while nurse is deployed in Haiti.
I wish I had the skills and youth needed now but my skills and wisdom will be a help anytime. I am not sure if TOS allow to link to specific sights asking donations. If you want PM or email me and I will give you some good links for time or money donations. We all know there is something we can do to. If nothing else get on facebook and encourage donations to help send nurses.
The hospital that I work for is making plans with the military to send nurses down there to work in temporary hospitals. I signed up, but am waiting for a deployment date. They say it could be anytime between now and a year from now. I'm anxious to get down there to help, but want to make sure that I will be in a safe environment as well (violence and disease).
The pictures on the news make me want to cry! The unconcious 6 month old with 50% 3rd degree burns on CBS last night really touched my heart. I find it so difficult to put into words what they must be going through.
