I got my schedule and I work 5 nights in a row, then 5 nights off, and it repeats. Kind of discouraged about the working 5 nights in a row, wondering if Im going to burn out? (8 hour shifts).

Most people work five 8hr shifts a week, that is a typical M-F schedule for the working masses, and they only have two days off a week. I guess I am confused with your question.

I always work five 8-hour shifts in a week to meet my full time 40 hours/week FTE requirement. Are you only working part time that you find this odd?

I work part time 1500-2330, 5 on, 9 off. I did that same schedule on 2300-0730 and it was tough but doable. There are several factors in determining how doable it is for you, though.
I've been told that most nurses do 3 12's in a week. Plus the night shift makes it that much harder I think to do the 5 8's in a row.
I'm wondering if OP works 12 hr shifts? Because that would be unusual at least from what I've seen. I do work with someone who routinely works 6 12 hr shifts in a row, but that's his request. He likes to travel, so likes as many days off in a row as possible.

I do anywhere from 2 - 5 shifts in a row, depending. I work 12 hours a shift, and 3-4 shifts a week, 7p-7a. 5 on and 5 off for 8 hour shifts sounds like a pretty good deal since most hospitals have 12 hour shifts. But you have to do what works for you.
I will be working 8's. This unit and night shift is pretty taxing and I'm afraid I'm going to burn out with this schedule, but hoping the 5 days off will be rejuvenating. Considering decreasing my hours in 6 months to a year because I am also going to school for my BSN. Thanks for the replies.

There are all different types of shifts in nursing. We have 5/8s, 4/10s, and 3/12s. Then we have our part time people who typically work 5 hours a few days a week. It all depends on the facility and the needs of the department.

I am contracted for 2nd shift (8 hours). Often, I will work double shifts or just 8 hour 3rd shift for overtime. I may end up working 8-12 days in a row or more if I am mandated to work more.
You'd only be working 4 more hours a week than nurses who work three 12hr shifts a week- that's not going to burn you out.

I hate working 2 shifts in a row. Five in a row would kill me.
