How long did it take you to get a job?

Published

i just passed the nclex and got my license. i'm wondering how long does it usually take to get a job if one has no experience at all. will it be to my disadvantage that i'm a foreign grad?:nurse:

Your filipino--it's in your blood to be a nurse. Congratulations

It didn't take me long to find a job at all, I was offered a job in February that I am not starting until August 18th, I actually moved that up from September. I haven't taken NCLEX yet but I have my temporary permit. I did have experience as a nursing assistant and a monitor tech prior. I think it depends on the area you're applying in and the area you want to work in.

I graduated June 6th and had a job a week later. I didn't start until 2 wks ago because they only have orientation once a month.

I was hired as a graduate nurse but I was able to schedule my NCLEX and pass it before I actually started work so I techincally was a full fledge LPN the first day of orientation. (heehee, they had to change my name badge from CT Pixie, GPN to CT Pixie LPN)

just out of curiosity, are you a U.S resident who decided to go to school in the phillipines?

Or are you a filipino who'll need a work visa to come to the US?

those are two totally different situations. And which state do you wanna work in? some places have a nursing glut.

Whatever it is, i wish you all the best.

And CONGRATS!!!!:yeah:

I'm from the Philippines and graduated there. Right now I'm in Fresno, CA with immigrant visa. I'm a newly licensed CA RN. Which places have a glut?

Hi there. I have three years of nursing assistant experience and I still can't get a job in MA.....I think it depends on what part of the country you're in.

Hi darling! Haven't heard from you since you PASSED!!!! I'm sure you'll find something. Like I told you, I applied for jobs and Dec and Jan of last year and got offers around Feb. Are you looking for anything in particular or are you just going to try and get what you can?

hi!:D glad you found me here!!! i really want med-surg, but i i'm open to any areas..i'm even willing to try nursing homes as my last choice because i really want to work in a hospital..guess i just have to wait and pray that some recruiters call me..did i mention that i'm not from here? I graduated in the Philippines, could that also be the reason why i'm not getting any interviews? or maybe i'm just getting impatient, it's only been two weeks..most of the open positions in the hospital websites are for RN II or clinical nurse II where they require 2 years experience..so you applied Dec last year? when did they start calling you for interview?

I don't know if that would be a reason why they aren't calling. I honestly don't think that would be a reason. I know you're in CA and I heard the job market out there is really competitive so that could be a reason, especially if the hospitals have new grad programs or residencies, all of the positions may already be filled. If the hospitals have a website where you could get the number to one of the recruiters who handles new grad applications, then I would start by contacting him/her....Umm...I got calls for interviews in January, most of the calls for interviews came like a week later, but at one of the hospitals I applied for, the recruiters were really slow at transferring the applications to the unit managers so it could just be a matter of that, like I said, I would try to find a contact person so at least you could find out whether or not you are waiting for nothing or if they have a least forwarded your application to the unit manager, and sometimes, they might even tell you to call them back if the manager or someone from the unit hasn't responded...Just keep pushing, I know you'll get something. Good luck!!!!

I just want to say thank you for your post, I am kind of in the same boat (foreign educated) and wonder if it is a disadvantage, especially since I am a new grad. And thank you to everyone for your replies, I am kind of nervous about not working for awhile.
