How long is your NS drive?

The two schools I would most like to get into, I cannot apply to until next Jan. because I lack the 2nd A&P. They each only have one start date. One I am doing pre-reqs in now, the other I have done a few courses previously and both are only a 20-25 min. drive (though the 1 day/week lecture for one will be a 70 mile drive because it will be at the main campus).

There are a few other schools I could look at, starting for next fall but would be 50min.+ drives 3-4 days a week. I am just curious what your drive is for your school and how many days you go. I am trying for figure out if is worth it or not to apply to other schools, for earlier start times but with a two year commitment of longer drives, when I am almost assured to get into the two previously mentioned schools but 10+ months later.

The one campus is about 20-25 mins way and the main campus is about 15 mins. Where I do clinical is about 10 mins. That sucks to have to drive that far. :(

10 minutes if I pedal, 2 miles by car. Clinicals are less than 5 miles away.

It takes me about 30 minutes to get to campus. Both clinical sites (hospitals) are about 5 minutes away from the main campus, so it only takes about 35 minutes to get to clinical from my house.

My drive to school, clinicals and work are all around 20 minutes. A tank of gas lasts me almost 2 weeks :) A tank of gas costs me around $25.

One of my classmates commutes over an hour each way to school, clinicals and work. He spends around $70 a week on gas.

I got lucky. Lecture is 2 blocks from my house and clinicals is about a 10 mile drive.

If you have to drive 70 miles one way to lecture once a week it might be do-able. Though if it were more I might advise against it. All that time lost from driving could be put to studying or creating these lovely concept maps/care plans.

I was in the >1 hr each way category.

I would say that there's no such thing as "almost assured to get in" and I would take the first program to which I was admitted.

When I start at the U in the spring it will be a 50 min one-way drive for me. I'll be budgeting close to 200/month on gas... eeep!

When I say almost assured to get in....my school does only LVN, then RN. If you get in for LVN, you go straight to RN. So they only do your admissions score by the LVN pre-reqs, co-reqs, and GPA. By the time I apply I will have all of pre-reqs and co-reqs for both programs, not just the LVN section. They don't have an admissions test currently because most of the people who go there for reqs and completed the majority, get in. It's competitive really only if you haven't completed most all of the required courses. The adviser told me there should be no issue but of course, I want to have back-ups, plus this program will require summer (which is fine but I also have children). The other school is similar but has an admissions test, however, it's not counted in scoring. I will have all but two points for their program. There is no waiting lists for either program.

I have a gas hog, which I need for as many kids we have. That's something else I'm trying to factor in to which schools I apply to, not just the drive time but also gas. Still, I'll probably have to get something more economical for NS.

I drive 1 hour and 30 minutes for lecture one way. To clinicals, I drive 1 hour 45 minutes. Car is a gas hog and I spend about $20 a day.

I'm starting in January and my school is about 45 minutes away without traffic, in nice weather. I have yet to experience the drive during rush hour or in the snow. :/ I also go 5 days a week, and have to be at clinicals by 0630 on Wednesdays and Fridays. The programs accelerated though, so its only 18 months, so I am hoping I can just make it through. :o
