How I passed NCLEX 1st time in 75 questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Here is a little background information on myself so you can see where I was coming from. I got my LPN license January of 2011 and went straight back for my RN and graduated in December. I didn't have money for a review course like Kaplan so I just ordered some books. My advisor talked to me before I finished school and said, "You aren't taking a review course? I think that is a VERY bad idea!" Obviously this scared me (I hadnt had OB or Peds since summer 2010 as part of my LPN program) I was lucky that I had a job lined up too but that really just added more pressure to pass. None the less I couldn't afford it so my only options were the books.Saunders 5th Edition - Great content book! Questions are pretty good to make sure you are retaining the information you read but are not NCLEX type questions. (Finished 75% of the book and was getting 80% average on the questions by the end of it, started in the 70s) Exam Cram - another great book. this book is only questions (I didn't use the CD). Questions are sooooo important and will help prepare you. I only averaged 65% in this book.Lacharity is an absolute must.. My worst score in here was 45% my average was 70% my highest was 90%... Trust me! Do all 18 chapters! Don't worry about doing the case studies.I also used the allnurses review floating around on here which was helpful as well!I gained something from all of these resources. There isn't one I used that was a waste of time. I did the PVT immediately, got the good pop up, got my license number 2 days after.Pharm (which I took in Spring 2010) was hard for me in school so it scared me the most. Most of the pharm stuff I studied was from Saunders but if I saw a drug anywhere I didn't recognize I would look it up.The day of I didn't feel ready so I think that's normal. Hope this info helps someone out there! Don't forget to pray pray pray!!!

Thanks for your story! I"m taking the NCLEX-RN on Feb 2 (just 4 days from now!) and am sooooo nervous! My job depends on me passing (I'm sooo grateful I've got a job and to end up losing because I don't pass.........). How did you handle all of the emotional aspects of getting ready?

Again, thank you and congratulations!

Hi, many other students I know passed NCLEX using www nclexrnprep

They provide a promo code for students to save 10%: SAVE-ZCEJ . I like that it is timed, provides rationals and you can order as many or as little test questions as your budget allows. A great resource. Best wishes!

congrats on passing:)

where did you do your lvn to rn? is it an associate's or bachelor's? thanks!

I was wondering if you received the review? if so could you please send it to me? Thank You! I will send you my work email as that is where is seem to spend the most of my time! [email protected] thanks in advance!

I took the NCLEX RN today and it stopped at 75 questions. I did get the good pop-up, but who knows... The truth will be in the pudding (so to speak) of seeing my name on the BON with a license # next to it! I can say that I agree with most posts here that practice questions (and reading the rationales behind right/wrong answers!) is probably the most helpful. I personally used ATI the most. I can't yet say that it "helped me to pass" but I'm sure hoping so - and I would follow the same strategy (with perhaps more emphasis on really knowing my pathophys) if I (please no) have to take it again.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi everyone! I just passed the NCLEX last Wednesday April 4,2012. Did the Pearson Vue trick and got the good pop up. I could not scream because it was already night time and it was so quite in our place.

I did not have any formal review but followed the advice of those who passed the NCLEX in this site. Did self review and answered thousands of questions in book and CD. Also, I read somewhere that the bar on the upper right hand corner of the computer screen of the test question is an indicator if you are near passing or not. If it passes the midline they say you are near passing which was what occured in my screen when I took the exam.

I believe that my faith in the Lord helped me to pass the exam. I resisted the urge to enroll in a formal review or online and trusted in Him. Also since I am a catholic, I asked my nun friend, two priests, family and friends to pray for me. ALso, pray to St. Joseph of Cupertino, patron saint of examinees and know something about his life. I prayed to him that I pass at 75 questions and it did shut down at 75 questions. But of course you also have to do your part.

These were my references:

1. KAPLAN ( focus on the strategies)

2. PRioritization and Delegation by Linda La Charity ( Prioritization is a high level question, I got tons of it during the exam and I believe this made me pass)

3. Lippincot review book

4. Know anything and everything about the exam process by going to NCSBN site and reading blogs (what is Computer Adaptive test and how does it work)

5. Do not memorize but understand how and why things happen

6. Download and print NCLEX review notes which members posted from this site (there are alot of pharm notes you can grab from this site)

Good luck to future test takers! God Bless and thank you to all of you who posted your tips in this site, can't remember you all but I want you to know that your suggestions helped me alot.

To God be the glory!

Congrats!!!can you plz send me a copy of the review at [email protected]
