How to get into and through Nursing School with NO MONEY!?

Published

I am hoping to go to Nursing School to finish my BSN soon - I already have the usual 60+ credits you need, so technically I am either going to an accelerated program or will do two years in an upper-division program. I was lucky to have got my first few years of undergraduate paid for, but now I am on my own when it comes to tuition, and everything else in my life - housing, food, insurance, etc; and I have pretty much nothing. I know there are loans and such, but has anyone else been in this situation and is there any advice? I have been doing so much research and I feel like I am missing something - scholarships, grants, I'm not sure - besides FAFSA which I already have filled out and know about. If you can understand this question and are familiar with the situation, all help and advice is much appreciated.

Hmmmmm-my suggestions: say good bye to buying new clothes, buy cheap food, and count down the days until you have a life again....and you will-at least that's what I'm doing. As far the the financial aid part, take everything you can get. Good luck.

Take the loans that are offered, cut out cable, fast food, cell phone, get cheaper housing, if possible, take on a roommate, sell stuff you don't really need, get a part time job, get rid of the car payment, get cheaper insurance, etc, etc, etc. Good luck!

I ended up getting a nursing scholarship each semester that paid for it all... apply for all the scholarships you can and keep your grades up, don't get any C's or fail a course. Also look for grant money, it's definitely out there...the local career center in town was giving out $8000 grants just for applying and going to 2 orientation sessions and showing you were trying in school(lots of paperwork though)..grants and scholarships are my suggestion, I'd steer clear of loans if you can.
