I work at a nursing home right now that is about 45 minutes from my house. There is a job opening at a nearby Children's Hospital for an ED Tech and I would LOVE to apply. The only problem is that it's about 1 - 1 1/2 hours away. How far do you guys travel to your jobs? Do you think it would be worth it? It is a full time position and I'm not sure how much it pays yet. I guess I will have to deduct all the gas money from the pay and see if I'm really making that much money at all.

What do you guys think?

Having a job you LOVE but having to drive so far to get to it... Worth it?:o

No way! 3 hours a day of commuting? That's way too long.

I drive, like, 15 minutes to work.

The drive in (Mom drives me) is 15 mins. The bus ride home is half an hour.

The LTC that I interviewed for this week is a 5 minute walk, I can see it from my window!

Do you really want to drive 90 minutes home while exhausted after running around a busy ER all day?

And if you work several days in a row, all that time you spend commuting really takes away from your sleep time.

Definitely agree with these points.

The LTC facility where I work is 38 minutes away from me according to Google Maps. It usually only takes me 30 minutes in the early morning but more like 40-45 minutes with traffic on the way home in the afternoon.

I wouldn't even be able to stand a 45 min drive. My facility is 6 minutes away.

Specializes in none as of yet.

I live next door to my job

lol you guys are so lucky to live so close to your jobs! unfortunately, i live in a small area so getting ANYWHERE takes u like 20+ min!

I live in a small town and it takes forever to get anywhere so I work an hour away but it is worth it because I get paid a good amount compared to somewhere closer plus I love my job. Once I'm done with nursing school I would like to move much closer to the hospital!

I would travel no more than 30 min to get to my job. I dont want to be spending most of my paycheck on gas!

This thought often creeps into my mind. I definitely won't be traveling the same distance once I'm working as an RN.

my client lives 15 mins away from me
