How far do you travel for work??
I work at a nursing home right now that is about 45 minutes from my house. There is a job opening at a nearby Children's Hospital for an ED Tech and I would LOVE to apply. The only problem is that it's about 1 - 1 1/2 hours away. How far do you guys travel to your jobs? Do you think it would be worth it? It is a full time position and I'm not sure how much it pays yet. I guess I will have to deduct all the gas money from the pay and see if I'm really making that much money at all. What do you guys think? Having a job you LOVE but having to drive so far to get to it... Worth it?

What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?
this man came into the ER because he had fallen and hurt his shoulder. well that ended up being the least of his worries. this man hadn't had a bath in about say....5 years? whats worse is that his socks were embedded into his skin and had to be cut off!! the skin underneath was so necrotic and his toenails were so long that they curled underneath his toes. it was awful.

breast cyst removal -- scarring?
well, if you are looking at my breast, the cyst is about two inches to the right of my nipple about the 3 o'clock position towards my armpit. if i ask for steristrips and fluffs (could u please explain what those are? lol) will it lessen the risk of scarring?

breast cyst removal -- scarring?
hello all OR nurses! i am about to have a cyst in my left breast removed and i was just wondering -- where will the scarring be? i had an ovarian cyst removed last March and they told me that were going through my belly button and would have a tiny scar, barely even visible...but guess what i get!! a four-inch long, 2 inch wide bright pink scar right below my belly button...i was just wondering if i could get a few opinions, advice, expertise, etc on the matter. just basically -- where do most surgeons cut when removing breast cysts?

CNA's that need to do their JOB!!
well sweetie, i can tell u that it happens in my facility!! we have a couple HORRIBLE aides... one time i was assigned to check the hopper room -- make sure there is nothing in there that needs to be removed, all bins are covered, etc. well there is one aide that NEVER does her job and likes to deny it when confronted. well i checked the hopper room after a particularly horrible shift and see that there are THREE DIRTY PADS that hadnt been sprayed out in there!!! and i know the other aides i was working with that night never do that sort of thing!! and i asked who did it and every single person said "it wasnt me" and i just knew who it was...another thing is, at dinner time, she will pick out a feeder tray and stay in there "feeding" (watching their tv) until all other feeders have been fed and all trays have been picked up!! oh and i have personally seen her do this one--- if she has to change a bed bound patients pad, she man handles them, rolling them very forcefully from one side to the other and doesnt even wipe the urine off their bottoms!!!! i was like.. YOU HAVE BEEN HERE FOR LIKE 10 YEARS AND UR DOING THIS??? HOW WERE U NOT FIRED?? it is absolutely crazy...i think they like her because she works whenever asked...but that doesnt mean she actually does her job!!! anyways, sorry about the rant..just wanted u to know that i completely understand where ur coming from

What Freaks You Out?
i'm a cna..and i cannot stand loose stool in a bedpan! i can wipe it off them, the bed, the brief, everything but i seriously gag if i have to clean it out/empty it out of a bedpan!! i have no idea why....oh and another thing...i hate spit. well not really spit, but u know that nasty thick stringy stuff from deep within?? ughhhhhahhgasdfewwwwwwwwwwww!!!!....lol i can handle everything else i've encountered so far

What you'd REALLY like to say....
listen Mrs. BusyBody FamilyMember. i am terribly sorry that your mother is so ill and that she has to be in a nursing home to be taken care of but that does NOT give you the right to know EVERY OTHER resident's business, EVEN IF it is your mom's roommate! NO her roommate didnt eat much today because she is in the process of passing away and is deteriorating quickly. YES she is incontinent, not that it's any of your business if she is wet even though you ask everytime i check on her. SORRY but the curtain between your mother's bed and her roommates bed has to be pulled for a little bit of privacy so stop trying to jerk it around when i'm doing pericare! OH YEAH AND BY THE WAY...when your mother's roommate has family members from all over the state visiting her because she doesnt have much time, and they start to sing her a nice gospel song, do NOT come and get me and tell me to ask them to shut up! YOU ARE SO RUDE!! how would you like it if everytime u talked to your mom, i asked you to shut your mouth because you were bothering others???

Things they didn't teach you in CNA class.
if your resident gets a suppository, go ahead and put a peach pad or a brief on them just for the time being until the suppository does its work. you will thank yourself later.

What you'd REALLY like to say....

Funny things your patients have said
i had a resident the other that started hollering and crying so i went in to check on her and i asked her what was wrong...she told me she thought her mother was pregnant...well...okay....
