How far do you travel to get to work?

Hey ya'll!

I'm a new grad, recently graduated this semester and I was wondering if I should apply to this position. It's an internship/ GN position for Med-surg, but the problem is that it's like 45 minutes away (i know some of you may say it isn't that long of a drive, but I think it's a pretty long). The internship is only 8 weeks long. I'm relocating and I've been applying to other places, but no luck! I don't have my license yet, which is probably one thing that's hurting me from getting a position. It's also no guarantee that I will get the position, but it's worth a shot. I'm trying to see if I should just wait until I get my license and see if I could get a job that's closer or just apply for this job that's 45 minutes away. I'm just curious on you all's opinions. Where I am residing now - it's a small city and doesn't take long to get from point A to point B. But, where I'm relocating, it's a big difference. How far do you all drive to get to work?

I live about an hour from the Texas Medical Center, and that's where I intend on putting in the majority of my applications. Ideally, I'd be able to walk to work, but in the name of my career, I'm willing to drive up to an hour.

When I was at a hospital over there, I talked to a few nurses about where they were from, and while some do move closer, I met a few doing a 45-60 minute commute. Really, we're all from the "Greater Area," so I'm used to driving far and it still seeming like "home."

35 minutes on a good day with few tourists:p, but most days it's about 45 minutes away.

For the job that I'm getting ready to start, it will take me around 45-50 minutes to get to work.

Right now my commute is 15-20 minutes. I'm hopefully starting a new job soon and my commute will be about 45 minutes with no traffic. Stinks but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Polls/surveys taken in the regular business/industry world indicate that most people will commute up to 60 mins one way for their jobs without a big whoop. Been doing that long commute for some years --- don't mind the drive home as there's no pressure to be on time. But to drive to work is all dependent on traffic, weather, detours, fuel stops, flat tires. speedtraps, etc. So time is more of an issue GOING than returning. But as the other posters say, you gotta do what you gotta do!

45 minutes is nothing. When I lived in LA it could be 1 Hr and 15 minutes drive 6 miles to work. Seriously made me mad. I hate stop n go traffic. Now I live about 40 miles from work, takes me about 60 minutes door to door. Its not a bad drive at all and its only 3 days a week. You get used to it. I dont think you need to relocate for a 45 minute drive but to each their own

I drive less than a mile, so 1-2 minute of drive for me.

I think 45 mins shouldn't be a big deal in this case if new grads jobs are hard to come by and you are given the chance to work as a GN.

You drive LESS than a mile? Why dont you walk? Bike? Just curious

I can work at any of my companies facilities. The closest is a 45 minute drive and the furthest is an hour an a half. Currently I split my week with one that is an hour away and one that is an hour and 15 minutes away. I love my satellite radio and books on CD.

Apply! don't under estimate the economy. My classmates and I are talking about commuting over a hundred miles away and crashing on couches through craigslist for our first year just to get experience. 45 min is not bad.
