How far do you drive to nursing school?

Published

I'm just currious to see how far some of you have to drive to nursing school. If I get into the program where I am applying I will have to drive over an hour. Do you think that is too far?

i drive about 20 mins to school but always get there atleast a half hour early bc parking is insane! I do have two girls in my class that both drive over an hour to get to school, I know it was really hard for them when gas was so high, now they are happier that it has come down a bit!

I drove 25 minutes door to door. It's so hard getting into a program here in NYC that I was just happy to be going, trust me!

I drive a little over an hour to my nursing school. It does get exhausting when driving home after a long day in class but like others have said, it is sort of relaxing. Also on the way to school if I have a test or quiz that day, I turn off the radio and try to explain out loud what the major points of the exam are. If I can't remember or explain them well enough, I look it up before class and that usually gets me a few extra points on the test. It just allows for that extra time to be thinking about class that day and what has to be done. The only big downside is all the gas money it takes when you are driving from that far away. I spend around $75 a week on gas and when gas was like $4/gallon it was more like $160 a week. However, I know it will be worth it in the end and I hope it will for you too!

I drove 45 miles and knew many in my class that drove farther than that. Used the time to destress and I also read my notes into a recorder and listened to them while driving - really does help!!

Jules-I will be driving 2 hours each way to nursing school. The drive concerns me,but it's my only option. It is nice to hear you enjoyed the quiet time. How many years have you been going to school?Thank you for the encouragement.

I drive 35 minutes...but I would drive up to an 1 1/2 hr. if I had to

You guys make me feel alot better in my decison to transfer to a school that is almost 100 miles away, which means an hour to a two hour drive in each direction. I believe it will all be worth it. :yeah:

I used to live on campus and now live about 3 miles from campus, about a 10 minute drive in traffic and between 5-45 minutes to find a parking space depending on the time of day. I drive 45 minutes each way to clinical though, 2x weekly.

I drive an hour one way, four days a week. Winter weather can make the drive longer. I know others in my class that drive a hour and a half. I think to figure out if it is worth it you need to decide how bad you want it. I wouldn't give it up no matter how far away the school was.

My drive is 3hrs!!! so i leave my hse about 4:30am to make it to an 8am class. Class is once a week. I know it sounds crazy but what to do?

That's what you call dedicated! Good thing it is only one day a week.

I drive an hour each way, 5 days a week, but allow 1 1/2 hours to assure arriving on time. The commute is getting to me - glad it's almost over! Ten more days of commuting:D
