Are jobs increasing? Pay?

Hiring only experienced RNs. There are sign-on bonuses for experienced OR nurses.

No new grads being hired.

We still have OT, and all of our benefits including matching pension funds.

They are cutting back on ancillary staff that does "fluff" stuff i.e. the lady who planned parties for the hospital.

OT is hard to get because everyone seems to need the extra $$ these days.

Now I can go weeks or months without work instead of the hours or a day or two that was the norm in the past. I don't like it.

Specializes in jack of all trades.

I just left my job not long ago. As the DON I was working as the only RN on the floor at least 4 days aweek with a per-diem (if I was lucky) 2 days aweek. The took my hourly wage changed to salary (at the same hr wage) so no more OT for me to work over 40. No paid holidays, raised our rate for our health benefits and cut the benefits!! Then they cut me to working with only 2 pcts (12 chronic hemodialysis chairs) 3 shifts 6 days week. Mostly everyone quit and those who didnt opened thier mouths to questions something were fired immediately. I couldnt take it any more myself and resigned. Now no job and it's hard finding one even with my BSN, was working on my MSN and have 30 years nursing experience. Last 3 in outpatient dialysis and literally was told "that's not the experience we need" doh (previous CCRN, also Burn ICU, CVICU, Trauma/ER) yet I cant find a job? But I dont regret leaving the one I had as they were really becoming abusive and taking advantage of the staff. The administrator would tell them "just be thankful you have a job as you can be replaced". Jeez.

I have noticed fewer shifts available for per diem nurses like me. It seems the other per diem nurses are all working more shifts, and the staff nurses are trying to work overtime.

I rarely get calls asking if I want to work anymore.
