How is the BSN entry level program at Nova Southeastern University?

Published

Hey I'm new to this site, and was just curious how Nova's nursing program is. I just got accepted into the Fall 2010 nursing program at the main campus in Davie. Any advice on how it is? Did you feel prepared when you took your NCLEX after completing the 27 month program? Would love to hear from anybody. I'm so excited and cant wait to start in august! :)

I am also anxiously awaiting a response from Nova. I know someone that called them and was told not to expect to hear anything till late October. It seems so hard to get into a good program here. When I lived in Texas I had friends getting into programs with 2.6 gpa's. Unfortunately I had to go to Iraq and had to put my plans on hold.

Hi combat-medic,

Thanks for posting :) I haven't really heard from many other Winter 2012 applicants and it's a tough process to go through alone! On Thursday, Nova had an online chat to answer questions from applicants and they also said that we would not hear anything until late October. They said that although a 3.0 is required to apply, a competitive GPA is considered to be 3.4+ cumulative. They told me that they also look at your science GPA as well (Anatomy & Physiology 1 with Lab, Anatomy & Physiology 2 with Lab, Chemistry, and Microbiology). Out of curiosity, I asked how many students they accept and how many apply- they say the receive about 1000 applicants for all campuses and accept about 75 for the Ft. Lauderdale campus- so yes, it is VERY competitive!! What campus did you apply to? Let me know if you have any other questions, they might have answered them in the chat and I saved the chat conversation (like a nerd  haha)

I applied to the main campus. I wish I could have made that chat session. What other questions did people ask? Anything that stood out?

i applied to main campus, too. here are some points from the chat that stuck out to me:

- nova does not select applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis. they said they used to do this, but not anymore

- you must have all of your pre-requisite classes completed before the application deadline to even be considered

- for financial aid, if you already have a bachelor's degree, you are eligible for stafford loans. they advised us to look for external scholarships

- nova has a 97% pass rate for the rn-nclex exam on the first try

- clinical rotations start 2nd semester

- # of students chosen each semester: 80 (main campus), 50 (ft. meyers), 60 (kendall)

- those who already have a bachelor's degree have no priority over other applicants

- 3.4 cumulative gpa is considered competitive and a 3.2 science gpa (pre-req sciences only) is considered competitive

- scholarship info @ http://www.nova.edu/financialaid/scholarships/institutional.html

- we take about 12 credits a semester and are automatically registered

- average class size: 30 students

- we get days off according to the academic calendar; our only extended break is from dec 12 to january 8th

hope this helps! :)

Do you know where the clinicals are done?

They said clinicals are done in surrounding counties to best meet the needs of the student. Some examples they listed were Broward Health, Baptist Health, Memorial Health, Tenet, and Boca. Shifts can be morning, evening, or weekends.

I was told by an adviser at nova that you should expect to hear from them anytime after Oct 1st.. Has anyone here received an email with instructions on how to access there webstar account?

That's interesting, I was told that it would only be at the end of October.

Who knows. when I submitted my application the system said I would receive a response mid October, the adviser said anytime after Oct 1st, and from what Ive read online most applicants were told end of October, I'm just glad October is right around the corner :yeah:

AGREED!!!

Hey guys! I am currently in novas program now at main campus! If you guys have any questions your welcome to ask. Sorry if I do take a little while to respond though, school can be hectic at times. However, I would like to help you guys with whatever questions you have like current students did for me when I was in your shoes. :)

Hi bongiorno89! Thanks for offering to answer some of our questions! Nova is my first choice right now, but I have been accepted to other schools. I would like to know some general things about the program like how is it intensity-wise, is it a cohort, are you happy with your decision to attend Nova, etc.

Also, I applied to the Main Campus as well and I'm starting to wonder about housing there. Do you know which apartments the most students live in, which are the nicest to live in, or if any offer roommate matching?
