How to become RN in British Columbia?

Published

Hi guys i need your suggestions on this, my wife recently passed the recent board exam given by PRC last June2008, in this regard shes asking the step to take in going for an RN in British Columbia, Vancouver. What are the requirements so she can have her papers assessed.

Hi littlelulu!

I submitted last December, but I have to tell you, there's the holidays to consider. And also, my application was a bit incomplete so that's why it took quite a while. And according to them, they're processing like hundreds at the moment together with mine.

Btw, Where are you from? :)

Hi summer, have they allowed you to sit the CRNE already?

Yes they did. Thank God!

Specializes in MS, ER.

summer09.. how many years do you have as a nurse here in our country? I mean do you have work experience that's why they granted your eligibility? what did you wrote on the" Other Professional Nursing Experience" was it the seminars/trainings you've attended? what about the employer's part? I'm confused..please enlighten me.. Thanks in advance summer09...

Hi cathybedrio, I didn't work in the Philippines. But I worked in the US for 1 year and 2 mos.

I think for the other professional experience, I just left it blank.

so that's it... your lucky indeed...!! Thanks for the reply!! God Bless !

Hi! It's me again, as for the employer's part, you just fill in the needed information (I'm talking about form 16 page 5-6)

And as for form 37, you give it to your employer for them to fill it up. Put it in the hospital's official envelope and then have them sign it on the flap. I'm not sure if that's really how it's supposed to be done. But that's what I asked for my employers to do.

Hope it helps

Those seminars and trainings you mention are not considered experience. While professional development is an essential part of maintaining one's skills and improving one's knowledge base, it is considered to be education and not experience. What they're looking for in that section of the application is any actual paid work you've done as an RN. Volunteer work doesn't count either.

Hi! I just want to ask some questions about the application forms..

My sister graduated & become a RN in the Philippines last 2007. She and my parents are currently living in Vancouver since May this year. We're just confused about the note on page 5 of form 16 asking for info about her nursing employers whether it is paid or unpaid. I've read from the past threads that this is pertaining to Canadian employers ONLY. Since she arrived in Canada a few months ago, she has not yet been employed there. But she volunteered for 10 mos in a clinic in our province, 4 mos in a tertiary hospital in Manila and did training in another hospital for 3 mos in QC. She even have IVT & BLS license. She already calculated her total hours worked for 2007 & 2008. But she got stuck in the questions about the nsg employers. Is she still require to submit the form 37 to those institution or not?

Another questions is she didn't put any institution recepient of her IELTS score because she wants to be sure that she passed first before submitting it to any institution. Is she supposed to pass her copy of the results or arranged it to where she apply for the test?

Thanks in advance.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Results from IELTS have to go direct from the place where she sat it so just needs to arrange that. The college is used to paperwork coming in in dribs and drabs

Not 100% sure on employer cos I am in another province but I had to put my UK employers down on my application form
