What to do after SEC assessment?
Btw, just to add...It really would help if for the OSCE, think like you're going on your first day of work in a hospital setting...You'd come in prepared for all skills right?? so that's the best way i can described to come prepared for OSCE... Im sure to those who have experience, it won't be as tough as for those who don't have practical experience. But doesn't mean you should relax, as you'll never know what theyll ask you to perform > study on medications (pharma) too! good luck

What to do after SEC assessment?
Hi kellie & imukfurok, Would suggest going to www.mtroyal.ca. for more information re: OSCE, triple jump and case scenario. in there, there are examples about it..Normally, if you book an appointment for SEC, you would get information from their contact person thru email on references, "guide" books to study as there is no review book for this SEC assessment. Re: what book i used in preparing myself, CRNE prep guide, MOSBY's CaNAdian comprehensive review-2nd edition (orange color book), . If you have months to prepare , i would really go for studying Student Study Guide - Medical-surgical Nursing: Critical Thinking In Client Care by P. Lemone. But this books i suggested are only for the written and short answer exam part. For the OSCE, i would definitely suggest to review on your psychomotor skills, ex.medications how to perform IV, IM, wound dressing etc. Those kind as you might have to perform return demo . What specifically, it varies, so just be prepared. And if you have been asked on focused specialty like Maternal and Child care or others, then would be beneficial to read on books specializing in that. Mine, was only Med-Surg. Basically, SEC isnt just about knowledge, more so also skills and critical thinking... Lastly, i would suggest making an appoinment now as last time i heard from a friend, next available was on a December 2009...They're getting busy . So doesnt mean when you're ready to take the SEC assessment and call for an appointment, that date is available..I think, they're kinda short-staffed in ratio to the demand coming in... Hope it helps. Just private message me if you want more info:) Sorry if there are typo errors, kinda rushing!

Applying for work permit without letter of eligibility
Silverdragon: Hi! Just happen to read this post . Found it interesting:) Made me wonder tho, while taking up those courses you mentioned , did they give you a temp. working permit as a nurse? Or do you have to finish the course before being eligible to work as a nurse , at the same time take up the CRNE? Really just curious....:)

Re-entry program at Kwantlen University
Hi, has anyone replied to you re your inquiries? Just wondering , have you taken your SEC assessment already? Coz maybe if after the SEC assessment, CRNBC thinks you don't need the re-entry program, then maybe you don't have to, right? Can you expound more on your background? Any work experience before but stopped? Or took up nursing education long ago?

What to do after SEC assessment?
I can't study for the SEC? Uhmmm...Im not sure if you got that right. I got an email from the SEC rep suggesting of books i can look into to prepare for it, including even the CRNE guide. If you meant that there's no reviewer for "that" unlike the CRNE, true....and i do got that part already. Thank you for the link but yep, i've read almost all the info that can pertain to SEC but nothing that answers my questions. I understand this is fairly new so i know only those who sat on it, has an idea. Having said that, i'm throwing in my question (my queries) for those who sat on their schedules dates already. AS for those who took the SEC assessment , i have an idea that there is a question exam that runs for 7 hours which is what they term as "diagnostic" exam but i just want to know if it covers the general nursing or diagnostic tools...Confused still... AS for the Triple Jump & Clinical Judge self assessment, i already have an idea on both. Its just the latter... Thanks in advance to those who can answer my queries:)

What to do after SEC assessment?
Hi, i am just curious...Are you familiar with the Diagnostic exam in SEC asssessment? I mean, is it similare to CRNE exam which is questions based on nursing in general? Or is it an exam purely on "diagnostic tools" like lab equipments, O.R equipments? I have a different perceptive of the "diagnostic" term. And it doesnt help that there are no study practice guides for SEC assessment (unlike CRNE ) since this is fairly new. Any tips would help. Thank you!

filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?
Hi ! I got an email giving me a file number. Its been "2 months/8weeks" from the time i applied for it. "That" shows in the CRNBC website (when you want to check your file status) I know that they have an approximate time as to the next step which is reviewing all my papers. My question is thrown to those who have already went thru this, how long did it take for them to send you another notice saying that papers is all received? And yes, i sent all my documents already. Papers direct from PRC, papers direct from IELTS, and papers direct from School too. Can anybody pls share some of their experience?:) Would truly appreciate it. Btw, i also hold a Permanent Resident card for several years now. In that area, i have no problems with working permits etc...

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
Hi Viamarie: Thanks so much for your posts! I am currently applying for CRNBC(canadian Registration nurses BC). The thing is, they also need my license verification which i filed last march 8 or 9, 2009 in PRC Cebu. (i was a Nov NLE 2008 passer) So of course when i applied for registration, much to my dismay (literally, my jaw dropped) they told me that i can get my license in 5-6 months. the License is a requirement for the "license verification form" (it's a 1-page form) that CRNBC has that must be filled up by PRC officials. After which , the PRC official will directly send it to CRNBC in Canada. T Here lies my problem, 5-6 months for license to be release. in other words that form will be filled up after the 5-6 months? I feel, theres too much waste of my time ... You did mention that if one has the extra resources, do this license verifcation in manila. Is it appliable to my case? I don't mean the "board exam passer certification" with the ratings etc... Did you have such "license verification form" also from the Australian Nurses assoc. etc? Im just looking at all possibilities here to make the process faster...Youre right, smaller provinces takes sooooo much longer... Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon. Cheers!

filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?
Yes, second to that. Never heard yet of 10 years contract... im not too sure but, it could be the MAIN reason why you didnt make it the first time, no visa granted. The Consul/s who interviews are all more than well trained to deal with all sorts of situations and even if you're not doing anything wrong but if ..just IF they feel, even at the "slightest tiny bit" of doubt, that could already be their grounds why they wont give grant you a visa. But on a lighter note, good luck on that second try.
